Kean Bryan could be Swansea’s Guehi heir

Swansea City are reportedly one of the sides taking an interest in Sheffield United centre-back Kean Bryan ahead of the summer, and if he were to make the move to the Liberty Stadium ahead of next season, he could be the ideal replacement for Marc Guehi in Steve Cooper’s side.

According to Football Insider, Fulham, Burnley and Swansea are all plotting moves for the 24-year-old defender, who is currently set to leave The Blades at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Although the former Manchester City youngster has previously stated his desire to stay at Bramall Lane, all three sides interested in him could potentially offer him Premier League football next season, whereas the Yorkshire side look destined for a return to the Championship.

Even if Swansea were to fail in their bid for promotion this season, if they could convince Bryan to join, then it could prove to be an excellent signing, as he has earned some valuable Premier League experience with the Blades.

The season-long injury suffered by Jack O’Connell provided an opportunity for the young defender to step in as the Blades’ left-sided centre-back and he has gone on to make 10 appearances for Sheffield United in the Premier League this season, including a game where he struck the winning goal in their shock 2-1 win at Old Trafford earlier in the season.

It seems extremely unlikely that Swansea will be able to keep hold of Guehi next season as a result of his impressive performances on loan from Chelsea over the past two seasons, and therefore, Cooper may well be in the market for a left-sided centre-back for his side next season.

[freshpress-quiz id=“532484″]

Considering that Bryan has plenty of experience, is just 24-years-old and would be available on a free transfer, he could be an excellent heir to the England U21 international, so Swansea should definitely try to bring him in.

And, in other news… Forget Lowe: Swansea beast who played four key passes was Cooper’s star vs Millwall

Mane now world class after Saints departure

Sadio Mane has well and truly become one of football’s global superstars since his move from Southampton to Liverpool in 2016, with the £34m paid by the Merseyside club now looking like a bargain from their perspective, but an awful deal from the Saints’ point of view.

Southampton originally signed the Senegalese winger from RB Salzburg in 2014 in a £10m deal, before selling him to Liverpool for £34m just two years later. Whilst that £24m profit might have seemed like a good deal at the time, his superb performances for the Reds in the five years since suggest that the Saints may well have been sold short.

During his time on the south coast, Mane contributed an impressive 25 goals and 14 assists in 75 appearances in all competitions, including the Premier League’s fastest ever hat-trick thanks to his treble in just two minutes and 56 seconds against Aston Villa – a record which is unlikely to be beaten.

However, his form has exploded since making the move to Anfield in the summer of 2016, as he has registered 93 goals and 41 assists in 211 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Success in the Champions League and the Premier League has also played a huge part in Mane’s value going through the roof, with Transfermarkt currently valuing the 29-year-old at £90m, a 265% increase on the £34m Liverpool paid for him.

Southampton are perhaps fortunate that Mane’s form this season has dwindled slightly, as he was valued at a remarkable £135m back in December 2019, before a drop in form and the financial impact of the current viral outbreak saw his value decrease.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/southampton-saints-ralph-hasenhuttl-martin-semmens-st-marys” title=”Latest Southampton news, transfer rumours and more”]

Despite his, and Liverpool’s, poor run of form in the league since the turn of the year, there is no doubt that Mane is still one of the best players in the English top flight, so it is a shame that Southampton couldn’t keep hold of him for longer.

Speaking last season, Klopp suggested that he always knew Mane would prove to be worth the fee Liverpool paid, saying: “Maybe people thought ‘I am not sure he is worth it’, but we were 100% sure about him. Consistency was the key and absolutely now what he is doing and how he performs is consistent.

“The level he performs at is unbelievable. He helps us massively. He is a complete player, offensively and defensively he works hard, he is really quick.”

[freshpress-quiz id=“594431″]

Perhaps that lack of consistency in his earlier Premier League career was why Liverpool were able to get him for a relatively low fee but, either way, you could definitely argue that the Saints were robbed in their negotiations for Mane when you consider his incredible rise since leaving the south coast in 2016.

McAvennie on board with Keane to Celtic

Frank McAvennie has exclusively told Football FanCast that he wouldn’t be against Roy Keane becoming the new Celtic manager.

The Hoops have been looking for a replacement for Neil Lennon, who was relieved of his duties last month, with Rangers on the verge of ending Celtic’s nine-year reign as top dogs in the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic have been strongly linked former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder and also ex-Bournemouth man Eddie Howe, although assistant manager John Kennedy has been in the dugout since Lennon’s dismissal.

But various reports believe that the Scottish giants have recently held talks with Keane, who spent a brief period at Celtic Park during his playing days – with the former Manchester United midfielder keen on getting back into management.

Keane’s been out of management since leaving Ipswich Town back in 2011, but has spent time as assistant manager of Republic of Ireland, Aston Villa and most recently, Nottingham Forest, under former Celtic fans favourite Martin O’Neil.

Despite his decade break from the hot seat, McAvennie would be on board with Keane getting the job.

He told Football FanCast:

“He’s thrown his name into the hat. It’s all over the papers that he likes the job, he wants the job. But I wouldn’t mind Roy. He’s high-profile, to see him going up against Stevie Gerrard, that would be one for the cameras.

“But whoever comes in has got to clean the place, there’s too many loan players.”

Everton must unleash Joshua King

Marcel Brands must urge Carlo Ancelotti to unleash Joshua King far more than he ever fielded Cenk Tosun, after Everton signed the AFC Bournemouth striker on Deadline Day.

What’s the word?

According to talkSPORT presenter Alex Crook, King’s last-ditch move to Merseyside saw the Toffees agree to sign the Cherries forward on an initial six-month contract.

Everton will have an option to extend the Norwegian’s time at Goodison Park at the end of the season, with the transfer potentially worth up to £5m.

The Blues paid Bournemouth a nominal sum to finalise a deal in the final hours of Deadline Day, after the Vitality Stadium outfit sought to secure a fee for a striker who was set to be out of contract when his £45,000-per-week deal expired in the summer.

King will provide Ancelotti with vital cover for Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Everton after Tosun was allowed to re-join Besiktas on loan until the end of the season, having failed to secure a regular starting berth under a succession of managers.

Reports by Norwegian television channel TV2 had claimed King decided to join Everton over Fulham after Bournemouth accepted offers from both Premier League sides, but the Blues first had to offload Tosun and his wages to afford the £10m-rated beast.

King is yet to score a league goal in a heavily disrupted campaign for the 29-year-old, having sustained a thigh injury in pre-season before later testing positive for coronavirus and missing almost two months.

Ancelotti must trust King

King found his eye for the goal in the FA Cup with a brace against Oldham Athletic and a solo strike in the fourth round against Crawley Town last month, while providing assists in each tie. Showing that he has not lost his edge in front of the net, which saw the Manchester United product score 48 Premier League goals with Bournemouth over five seasons.

Everton’s Director of Football Brands must now urge Ancelotti to place his backing in the 51-cap Norway international, having seen the Italian only field Tosun for 43 minutes in the top-flight this term.

Brands has put his faith into King offering Ancelotti a greater attacking threat than Tosun could ever bring to the table, with the Turkey international only scoring nine Premier League goals since January 2018.

The Dutchman has also struck what could prove to be a masterstroke by including clauses that will allow Everton to sign King to a long-term contract in the summer, without having to pay the £15m Bournemouth were allegedly wanting for the versatile forward who their former head coach Eddie Howe lauded as the “complete package”.

But that will prove worthless if King does not feature, despite having the potential to offer the goals form the bench that could secure the Toffees European football, which Ancelotti did not previously have.

Everton have not seen a substitute score a single goal in the Premier League all season, an unwanted stat which only goal-shy duo Burnley and West Bromwich Albion can also lay claim to.

If 11-goal striker Calvert-Lewin has not found the net, the Toffees also struggle, with the Blues only scoring seven in their last seven games, running back to when the 23-year-old last scored.

King does not have to do much to offer more of a threat than Tosun but if he’s to get the goals the Merseyside outfit have been lacking, Ancelotti will have to back him.

James Milner slammed by Liverpool fans

Plenty of Liverpool fans had their say on James Milner during their Premier League encounter against Fulham on Sunday.

The 35-year-old made just his eighth league start of the season as manager Jurgen Klopp made seven changes to the team which lost 1-0 to Chelsea in midweek.

Milner, who earns £140,000-a-week at Anfield, was notably complacent in the midfield as his team attempted to overturn their wretched domestic form, gifting the ball to Ivan Cavaliero as the Cottagers almost scored as a result. Per Fotmob, Milner lost seven duels, misplaced three long balls and committed three fouls.

Manager Jurgen Klopp surprised many when Georginio Wijnaldum was brought off on the hour mark for Sadio Mane, with The Athletic’s James Pearce calling for Fabinho to take the veteran’s place in the second half.

With this in mind, some Liverpool supporters slammed Milner for being “miles off the pace” and a few even suggested that his time at the club may have come to an unfortunate end.

Man Utd must swoop for Sancho

It’s been a relatively quiet window for Manchester United but it seems all eyes will be on the next transfer window as The Red Devils plot a highly-anticipated summer overhaul…

What’s the word?

According to SPORT via The Daily Express, United remain interested in signing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund to bolster Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s firepower, although they will face several obstacles.

The Norwegian’s chase for the 20-year-old was well-documented last summer, only for it to fall short at the final hurdle as Ed Woodward was unwilling to release the necessary funds.

But it seems like Solskjaer is still ready to take Sancho to Old Trafford in the summer, per the Spanish publication, and if Woodward can get a deal done, it could be an absolute masterclass by the chief executive as the 18-cap England international provides a big upgrade on one of United’s current options.

Woodward masterclass?

A move for his Sancho would make an awful lot of sense, especially considering Daniel James has continued to struggle in front of goal.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/man-utd-deadline-day-latest-news-transfer-rumours-and-more” title=”Deadline day is here: Read the latest Man Utd news, transfer rumours and more!”]

The 23-year-old Welsh international has only contributed to five goals across all competitions so far this season, via WhoScored.

Sancho, on the other hand, has made 20 goal contributions in all competitions this season, including three goals and nine assists in 18 top-flight appearances in the Bundesliga and would clearly offer much more of an attacking threat.

Per WhoScored, he is currently averaging more shots (1.5), more key passes (2.3) and more dribbles (2.5) per match and commits less fouls than James’ 0.9 per 90.

The former Manchester City youth prospect, who turns 21 in March, moved to Germany for a fee in the region of £10m in 2017 after he stopped training with the club to force a move. He earns around £190,000-per-week at the Signal Iduna Park, making him one of the club’s best paid players.

Previously deemed “amazing” by his teammate Erling Braut Haaland, it seems Sancho is destined for bigger and better things, and to all intents and purposes would be a perfect fit for Solskjaer’s side, so Woodward should pull out all the stops to secure his signature in the summer.

AND in other news, Manchester United should sign Sergio Ramos after transfer update…

Tom Davies: Carlo Ancelotti badly let down by Everton midfielder in Arsenal win

Everton midfielder Tom Davies badly let Carlo Ancelotti down in Saturday’s Premier League win over Arsenal in the absence of Allan.

Ancelotti confirmed ahead of the Gunners’ trip to Goodison Park that Allan would play no part after sustaining a hamstring injury in the midweek win over Leicester City, and opted to name Davies alongside Abdoulaye Doucoure in a dual-axis holding duo.

The decision to pair Doucoure with Davies appeared well-thought-out in the opening stages when the duo forced Mikel Arteta’s side to drop deep, allowing for Mason Holgate to overlap Alex Iwobi and create space for the Nigerian to deliver the cross for Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s deflected header which beat Bernd Leno to open the scoring.

But Davies’ promising start lasted just over 10 minutes before his afternoon took a sour turn when his clumsy attempt to clear the ball saw Arsenal awarded a penalty, with the £14.4million-rated Toffees product unaware of Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ presence on his blind side.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp was disgusted by Davies’ lack of awareness and was adamant the 22-year-old had to do better during what was only his third start of the Premier League season.

“When you’re the defensive midfield player, you have a responsibility to react,” Redknapp said during Sky Sports’ half-time coverage (19/12, 18:23). “Arsenal get it wrong, but work at it again.

“Maitland-Niles gets the cross in and just follows it in. Davies has got to react, you can see he’s just on his heels, he doesn’t sense there’s danger, he doesn’t realise he’s coming in behind him.

“He’s got to react quicker, Maitland-Niles gets there before him and it’s a definite penalty. He knows what he’s doing. It’s not a great header by Yerry Mina, but Davies has got to do better.”

Mina restored Everton’s lead on the brink of first-half stoppage-time when the Colombian headed home Gylfi Sigurdsson’s corner, but Davies was unable to restore his performance to a higher regard after the break.

Davies saw out the entire 90 minutes, yet ended the match having recorded fewer touches (35) than Jordan Pickford (36), per SofaScore. He also registered the same aerial duel success rate as the Blues’ shot-stopper, having each attempted and won a single contest.

Davies further let Ancelotti down with success in just two of six ground duels, committed three fouls, made only two successful tackles, was dribbled past once, never successfully intercepted the ball and misplaced three of his four long passes.

He was poor positionally, too, often dropping to within touching distance of defenders Ben Godfrey and Michael Keane to leave acres of space for Arsenal to control possession in the Toffees’ territory in search of a second equalising goal that never came.

No doubt Ancelotti will be fuming with Davies for his calamitous foul which gifted Arsenal a route back into the tie, and must now be questioning whether or not the £25,000-per-week outcast can cover for Allan when Everton play Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Wednesday night.

A terceira delas, priorização do Campeonato Brasileiro, é objeto do presente escrito.

O calendário do futebol brasileiro precisa evoluir.
