Spurs: Dele Alli situation could brew storm between Daniel Levy & Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho and Daniel Levy could be headed for the mother of all fallouts as Dele Alli’s current situation continues to be a conundrum.

The England international has been frozen out of the action at Tottenham Hotspur, with Mourinho preferring other options over the 24-year-old. But Alli still has four years left on his current contract and won’t be willing to sit on the sidelines until then. Currently valued at £46million, Spurs could bank an insane profit on the midfielder if they were to cash in next summer.

However, things aren’t as simple as that for the Spurs board. Levy has made it clear that he is an admirer of Alli’s and does not want to see him leave the club any time soon.

Dele Dilemma

Mourinho is a well-respected and established Premier League manager who boasts three titles from his success at Chelsea. However, he is known for being quite a prickly character when it comes to the game. The Portuguese boss has applauded Alli’s attitude towards his recent decisions, but his generous comments could turn sour towards the club’s chairman if they continue to disagree.

Ultimately, Levy gets the final say, but he cannot change what goes on, on the pitch. With Alli only featuring twice in the Premier League this season, it doesn’t look like Mourinho is willing to budge on his decision.

If he is forced to reinstate the 24-year-old in the team against his will, Mourinho will rapidly lose his patience. But on the flip side, if the former Man United man stands firm on casting Alli aside, he could really get on the bad side of Levy. This is a situation that must be handled with care or it could turn dangerously explosive.

Levy may have missed a trick with Spurs target Lucas Alario

Tottenham Hotspur may have clinched the signing of Carlos Vinicius from Benfica, but have they missed a trick with another mooted target?

What’s the word?

According to Bild’s head of football Christian Falk, Spurs have recently had a bid rejected for Bayer Leverkusen striker Lucas Alario, who Jose Mourinho wants as a backup to Harry Kane.

He claims that Rudi Voller abruptly put an end to the north Londoners pursuit of the 27-year-old. He’s currently valued at just €15m (£13.5) on CIES Football Observatory.

Meanwhile, it appears Spurs are set to land Vinicius on a season-long loan, paying £2.7m upfront with an option to buy of around £38m, as per Sky Sports.

Missed a trick?

It’s no secret that Mourinho has needed a second striker ever since his appointment last November and whilst the prolific 25-year-old is an astute option to bring in on loan, could Daniel Levy regret not pushing for Alario?

The Leverkusen frontman is held in high regard by many – he’s been likened to Robert Lewandowski by teammate Sven Bender, claiming: ” I think Lucas is a similar type of forward to Robert. Obviously, he’s only starting out but he has everything needed to become a top striker.”

Whilst Alario has even drawn comparisons to former Mourinho great, the explosive Didier Drogba, with Goal.com adding: “Alario is an all-round striker in the mould of a Didier Drogba because while he is not as physically strong as the Ivorian, he is adept at holding up the ball and also good in the air.”

Despite being a backup in Germany, the Argentinian still provided seven goals in just 11 starts, and even averaged 2.1 shots and 1.9 aerials won per game, via WhoScored.

He seems like the perfect foil for Kane whereas Vinicius, who bagged 24 times last season, would surely be chomping at the bit to start each and every week.

That situation would leave Mourinho in a pickle, so perhaps the Spurs chairman has missed a trick by not going back in for Alario.

Everton loan swoop for Fikayo Tomori could be shades of Kurt Zouma

Everton have had to avert their interest elsewhere after the Gunners have closed in on Lille colossus Gabriel, but they could well have a smart alternative up their sleeve if fresh reports are to be believed…

What’s the word?

According to Mike McGrath at the Telegraph, the Toffees are eyeing up a loan move for Chelsea centre-back Fikayo Tomori should he become available this summer.

It’s claimed that Frank Lampard could let his young talent depart Stamford Bridge temporarily amid interest from Ligue 1 outfit Rennes after the 22-year-old started only 15 times in the Premier League last season.

Carlo Ancelotti wants defensive reinforcements after his side leaked 56 goals, which was the second-worst of any top-half team.

Shades of Zouma

Everton can forget about Gabriel with a swoop for Tomori as it could result in a similar impact to fellow Blues defender Kurt Zouma, who quickly became a fan-favourite during a season-long loan back in 2018/19.

The Frenchman has since returned and gone on to be a regular under Lampard, so you’d imagine the west Londoners would see Goodison Park as a neat fit for the 22-year-old to develop further.

In those 15 appearances, Tomori averaged 2.8 clearances, 1.9 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per game whilst also winning 2.3 aerials per match too, via WhoScored.

He also frequented the Champions League which saw glowing praise from Lampard, who said: “Fikayo was outstanding again. He has to keep on with that.”

“I’m absolutely delighted for (Fikayo) Tomori because I think Mason [Mount] and Tammy (Abraham) are taking a lot of the headlines this season and rightly so, but Tomori from seeing him at Derby last year, quite quiet, loads of great talent in him but slightly raw in a way.”

Lampard after Tomori’s int’l call-up

The youngster’s performances have even been recognised by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate. Tomori was called up to England’s Euro 2020 qualifiers in the first half of the season and subsequently made his debut against Kosovo as a substitute.

Tomori may still be some way off becoming a regular at Chelsea, but a loan move to the Toffees should help all interested parties tenfold and if he performs half as well as Zouma, then the £14.4m-rated colossus going to be a surefire hit in Merseyside.

AND in other news, Five realistic signings Everton should target this summer…

Everton making a huge mistake with James Rodriguez move

According to Sky Sports, Everton are closing in on the signing of Real Madrid star James Rodriguez.

What’s the word?

The Toffees have been linked with a whole host of players this summer, including the likes of Napoli midfielder Allan, and Watford ace Abdoulaye Doucoure.

But according to Sky Sports, it may be Rodriguez who is first to join Carlo Ancelotti’s side this summer, with an offer already being presented to Madrid.

The report adds that Everton’s bid is under consideration at the Santiago Bernabeu, and that “it is believed talks between the two clubs are progressing well and an agreement over a deal may be close”. Sky Sports further claim that Rodriguez himself is keen on making the move to Goodison Park, and inclined to put pen to paper on a three-year deal.

Expensive nightmare

The very fact Rodriguez is even being touted with a move to Everton is a testament to the kind of pulling power Ancelotti has brought with him to Goodison Park.

The Toffees don’t have any European football to offer next season, and realistically won’t be challenging for the Premier League title either, so Ancelotti and co will certainly have worked their magic in swaying Rodriguez to join the club.

But whilst on paper it seems like a stunning coup, there are several reasons for Everton to be a bit more cautious about it. Rodriguez is reported to be earning around £200k-a-week at Madrid, which is £80k higher than the Toffees’ two current highest-earners, Bernard and Yerry Mina.

Not only would his wages eat a big chunk out of Everton’s finances, but there’s a real question whether he has the ability to become a success in England. In the measly 14 games he played across all competitions last season, he netted just once and provided only two assists, whilst the campaign before saw him play only 28 times, suffering from knee ligament, calf and adductor problems.

Whilst Ancelotti has gone on record previously to say that he rates him “very highly”, Rodriguez, 29, just may not be the genuine answer for Everton. He may well turn out to be yet another expensive dud that Marcel Brands looks back on with a sense of regret.

Tottenham Hotspur fans react to Toby Alderweireld’s celebration vs Wolves

Even though there’s still quite a lot to do for Tottenham Hotspur to fully get back on track and compete at the top end of the Premier League, Jose Mourinho’s honeymoon phase is currently living up to its name.

Of course, with five wins during his tenure in north London, the Special One must be enjoying his brand new project at the moment.

The players themselves look hungrier and more motivated than before and the prime example of the winning mentality being instilled in them could be seen in their last clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers away from home on Sunday.

A stoppage-time goal by Jan Vertonghen prompted an explosion of celebrations and Toby Alderweireled was seen gesturing towards the home fans with his hand behind his ear when his teammate rattled the net.

Needless to say, that got many Spurs fans absolutely buzzing…

Many of them were stating that this is proof of his love and the passion for the club while others proclaimed their affection towards the defender himself.

Mourinho’s produced some incredible footballing stars – how much do you know about them?

Of course, with this particular gesture seemingly touching the fans for those very reasons, some of them were urging the club to give him a new contract and stating that he should sign an extension.

His current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2020 and we’re yet to receive the final update on the centre-back’s future from the club.

But if these situations and the fans’ reactions are anything to go by, it seems that he is both beloved by the club and loves it himself.

We’ll have to wait and see if that’s enough to keep him around for a while longer.

Spurs defender Davies suffers ligament damage

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Injury News series, which considers the impact of the latest updates on players’ fitness.

Ben Davies sustained ligament damage during Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-2 win over West Ham United at the weekend, the club have confirmed.

What’s the word?

The Wales international may require surgery during his recovery, with the club confirming that he will undergo “an extended period of rehabilitation”.

Davies has made nine appearances in all competitions thus far this season, though he has had just four starts in the Premier League.

Manager Jose Mourinho selected Danny Rose to play in the position against Olympiacos but it remains to be seen if he will retain his place in the absence of his team-mate.

Sessegnon’s chance

The time has come for Ryan Sessegnon to be unleashed.

Admittedly, the former Fulham ace is not a natural full-back and has repeatedly played on the wing throughout his career, but this feels like the perfect opportunity to throw him into the mix.

Thus far this season, the 19-year-old has made just two appearances, coming on as a substitute in injury time against Everton and making his Champions League debut against Red Star Belgrade earlier in November.

Both of those appearances came under Mauricio Pochettino’s management but one feels that he now has the ideal chance to impress his new boss.

Of course, Mourinho will have to trust him in his team selections but if the teenager can win him over in training, there is every chance he will have the opportunity to become Spurs’ first-choice left-back.

Meanwhile, Spurs fans have hailed another defender for his midweek display.

Man Utd’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer urges side to "fill their boots" against Partizan

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged his side to “fill their boots” in their clash against Partizan Belgrade on Thursday night.

What did he say?

The Red Devils have found it a struggle this season to find the back of the net, netting just 13 times in 11 Premier League games – indeed, until their 3-1 victory over Norwich at Carrow Road a couple of weeks ago, they had gone without scoring more than a single goal in a game since the 4-0 win over Chelsea in the opening fixture of the campaign.

Now, Solskjaer has called on his side to re-discover their goal-scoring touch, and insisted their Europa League match against Partizan could be the perfect opportunity to do just that.

Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

He said (as quoted by The Telegraph): “For one reason or another we haven’t had results (we would like). We think we should have had a few more results, but we’re on the right track. Saturday (against Bournemouth) was disappointing and now we have a chance to get two wins before the break. We were on a half-run… we couldn’t get the goal we felt we deserved early on, but we started well, the mentality was great, but we ended up disappointed.

“This is a great chance to qualify for the next round that means, in the last two games, we can try out a few things out. We want to play on the front foot and if we get an early goal (against Partizan), I want the boys to fill their boots. We need to go in search of the second and third goal, I’d rather the boys did that, even if they make mistakes.”

Famous last words

Oh Ole, did you really need to say that? The Norwegian’s intentions with his pre-match comments are understandable. He wants people to know that his team are doing everything they can to address this incredible issue of not being able to score regularly, but in reality, he has just doomed his players.

The United boss appears to have a short memory, because in their previous clash against the Serbian side, they only won thanks to an Anthony Martial penalty, and had a paltry one shot on target. Not exactly a thrashing is it? The Red Devils are now on a hiding to nothing – anything less than a comprehensive victory will be deemed as a major failure on the part of Solskjaer. A bit of confidence is always great, but only in small doses. Solskjaer’s message felt like it bordered on arrogance, and based on their season so far, he absolutely has no basis for that.
