The 22-year-old centre-half is currently starring for Nottingham Forest, having moved to the City Ground from Corinthians in a £10 million ($12m) deal during the summer of 2023. Murillo’s stock has soared on Trentside, to the point that he is said to be attracting interest from leading sides across Europe.

Murillo has become a cult hero in Nottingham, with his South American flair being showcased alongside more typical defensive traits. He is an exciting player to watch, with buccaneering breaks often made out from of the back, while always being prepared to put his body on the line for the good of any given cause.
DID YOU KNOW?
Chelsea are said to have seen a bid rejected towards the end of the last transfer window, while Liverpool are also being credited with interest. Any deal involving the Samba star, who has already been involved with senior Brazil squads, could see him become the first defender to generate a nine-figure fee.

Getty/GOALWHAT STAN COLLYMORE SAID
Quizzed on whether Murillo is destined to be a record-breaking £100m ($124m) star, Forest legend Stan Collymore – speaking in association with – told GOAL: “He could be. There are clubs watching him. From a personal perspective I would love to see him stay at Forest for the next three, four, five years. He’s signed his new contract.
“Obviously with the season that Forest are having, it is going to be very difficult to keep hold of players. He has got a bit of everything. It’s a strange one really because he doesn’t look like a central defender at all – he’s not the tallest, he’s fairly ungainly in the way that he moves around, but he’s a bit of a throwback in terms of liking to defend, likes to get touch-tight with players and get physical and he anticipates things well.
“He may well go on to become the first £100m defender, which for Forest would be an incredible deal if it came. My hope is that he stays for another two or three years.”
Liverpool could now complete the signing of an “incredible” Andy Robertson replacement for a cut-price amount, according to a fresh transfer update.
Robertson struggling for form at Liverpool
The Reds secured a priceless 2-1 victory at home to Brighton on Saturday, with defeats for Manchester City and Arsenal ensuring that they end the weekend top of the Premier League. Despite a poor performance for an hour or so, Cody Gakpo equalised and Mohamed Salah’s stunning strike sealed a dramatic three points.
While much of Arne Slot’s starting lineup for Liverpool picked itself at Anfield, one notable omission was Robertson, who started in the EFL Cup win at Brighton in midweek, but saw Kostas Tsimikas preferred to him for the bigger game in the league.
The 30-year-old certainly hasn’t been at his best this season, being skinned by Bukayo Saka in the 2-2 draw away to Arsenal last weekend, so it was hard for him to have too many complaints about Slot’s decision to leave him out.
Given his age, and the fact that Robertson has seven years of intense football in his legs from the Jurgen Klopp era, there is an argument to say that he has now peaked as a player. Replacements are needed when looking at the long-term picture and it looks as though Liverpool may have their number one option lined up.
Liverpool could sign Wolves' Ait-Nouri on the cheap
According to Football Insider, Liverpool could sign Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri in a “cut-price” deal, having shown plenty of interest in him in the past.
He has been a target for the Reds “for a while” and Wolves wouldn’t be able to keep hold of him if they are relegated to the Championship, “which is why they might accept a smaller fee for his services”. The report adds that Liverpool see Ait-Nouri as a possible Robertson replacement.
Ait-Nouri
Ait-Nouri jumps out as a shrewd option for Liverpool, as at 23, he is still a young player, so he could join the Reds at the same age Robertson was when he arrived in the summer of 2017.
The Algerian possesses both defensive expertise and attacking quality, not only keeping Mohamed Salah quiet in a game back in 2021/22, but also equalising against the Reds earlier this season. Wanderers manager Gary O’Neil has lauded him in the past, saying:
“I’m enjoying working with Rayan, I think he’s an incredible talent, a great guy and he brings a real enthusiasm and life to the place. We can use him anywhere so, unfortunately, at the moment we have to because we don’t have many others. But he is talented enough when we roll him in and play him in midfield a few times and we played him as a right 10 in the second half today, and he’s come on loads – his work rate and everything about him.”

Robertson may still have plenty to offer Liverpool but a younger alternative with more legs could be needed next summer, and Ait-Nouri may fit the bill perfectly.
Everton central defender Michael Keane may have silenced some of his critics in recent weeks with his performances in the last two Premier League games.
The English titan scored against Ipswich Town on Saturday and has helped the team to keep back-to-back clean sheets, against the Tractor Boys and Newcastle United.
His resurgence has been a welcome sight for the Toffees as Jarrad Branthwaite has endured an injury-hit start to the campaign, with one appearance in the Premier League so far.
Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite
Sean Dyche has not had the chance to select the England international on a regular basis so far this season, which is particularly frustrating after the club fought so hard to keep hold of him during the summer transfer window.
Manchester United heavily pursued a deal to bring the left-footed centre-back to Old Trafford, as they had two bids turned down for his services.
The BBC reported that Everton turned down an offer of £35m for the Englishman before rejecting an improved bid of £45m from Erik ten Hag’s side, as it did not meet their valuation of the defender.
Jarrad Branthwaite
Branthwaite would have become one of the most expensive sales in the club’s history if they had cashed in for £45m, which shows how desperate they were to keep him.
Everton's most expensive sales
The Toffees have developed and sold a host of impressive young stars over the years and raked in a huge amount of money from cashing in on them.
The £45m that Manchester United offered for Branthwaite would, as per Transfermarkt, have made him the fifth-most expensive sale in the club’s history.
However, it would not have made him the most expensive departure of the summer transfer window for Everton, as Amadou Onana completed a big-money switch to Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

As you can see in the table above, that move to join up with Unai Emery’s Champions League side made him the second-highest sale behind Romelu Lukaku’s move to Manchester United.
The £45m that the Red Devils had offered for Branthwaite, however, would not have been more than the fee the Toffees raked in for another English centre-back – John Stones, who the club hit the jackpot with.
How much Everton paid for John Stones
In February of 2013, Everton swooped to snap up the central defender from Barnsley for a reported fee of £3m, as the England U19 international had caught their eye during the first half of the season.
He had played 22 matches in the Championship that term and initially linked up with the club’s U21 side, making 12 appearances for the academy during the second half of the 2012/13 campaign.
It did not take long for him to establish himself as a first-team player for Everton, though, as Stones went on to play 21 times in the Premier League in his first full season at Goodison Park.
His best and most consistent season in a Toffees shirt, however, came in the 2015/16 campaign, as he played in 33 of the club’s 38 league matches.

As you can see in the table above, Stones was a dominant presence at the back for Everton, winning the vast majority of his duels on the ground and in the air, whilst also being reliable in possession with his passing.
He was 21 at the time and had already been capped at senior level by England, after playing 12 times for the U21s during his time at Goodison Park.

Football FanCast's Market Movers series explores the changing landscape of the modern transfer market. How much is your club's star player or biggest flop worth today?
His sublime form for the Toffees in the Premier League that term, and his emergence for England at international level, convinced Pep Guardiola to swoop for him as one of his first signings in charge of Manchester City in the summer of 2016.
How much Manchester City paid for John Stones
The earlier table showed that Transfermarkt have the fee the Cityzens paid for the central defender at £46m, but that is not inclusive of the add-ons that were agreed as part of the deal.
Sky Sports reported at the time that the deal would rise to £50m with add-ons, which meant that Everton made a colossal profit of 1,567% on the £3m that they paid Barnsley for his services in 2013.
This shows that the Toffees hit the jackpot with the Rolls-Royce of a defender, as they made £47m profit within the space of just three-and-a-half years.
As you can see in the graphic above, Stones’ value has fluctuated throughout his time at The Etihad, as he has struggled with injuries at times, but there is no doubt that he has gone on to have a fantastic career since leaving Everton.
The England international has reached two European Championship finals with his country, won six Premier League titles, and lifted the Champions League with Manchester City.
Stones was described as “world-class” by England teammate and Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa earlier this year and was once hailed as “world-class” and a “freak”, due to his defensive quality, mobility, and passing range, by ex-Fulham boss Scott Parker.
This shows that players and managers alike are in awe of his quality on the pitch as a centre-back, hence why he is in his eighth season with City and has made 264 appearances for the club in all competitions.
In fact, Stones – now 30 – provided a timely reminder of his quality by scoring a 95th-minute winner for the Cityzens in their 2-1 win over Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday.
Overall, all parties should be pleased with how his career has gone. Everton made a huge profit and City gained a player who has helped them to dominate the Premier League over the past eight seasons.

The Pakistan board has expressed displeasure at reports that its Indian counterpart is trying to prevent players from joining the tournament

The PCB has expressed its displeasure over reports that the BCCI called ICC Full Members in a bid to prevent retired players from those countries from appearing in the Kashmir Premier League (KPL), a new T20 tournament set to take place in Pakistan in August. The PCB said it was a breach of “international norms and the spirit of the gentleman’s game by interfering in internal affairs of cricket boards.”The PCB was reacting to a tweet from Herschelle Gibbs – who is expected to play in the league – who said: “Completely unnecessary of the BCCI to bring their political agenda with Pakistan into the equation and trying to prevent me playing in the KPL20. Also threatening me saying they won’t allow me entry into India for any cricket related work. Ludicrous.”The KPL is a six-team franchise model league, run by private businessmen, but with clearances from the Pakistan government and crucially, approved by the PCB. The tournament will be played at the Muzaffarabad cricket stadium in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, scheduled to start on August 6 with the final on August 17. Each team is named after the cities in the region – Kotli, Bagh, Mirpur, Rawalakot, Muzaffarabad and one team of overseas players – and the squads were selected through a draft process last month. According to a release by the organisers, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Hafeez, Kamran Akmal and Shadab Khan will be captains of the sides.A raft of retired foreign players had been signed up to play according to organisers, including Monty Panesar, Matt Prior, Phil Mustard, Tino Best, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Gibbs. But a player agent in England informed the KPL management that the BCCI had called up the ECB and Cricket South Africa and told them to withdraw their players from the league, otherwise those players would not be able to work in India.Kashmir has been the central focus of the dispute – as well as the cause of several wars – between India and Pakistan from the moment India gained independence and Pakistan was created in 1947. Both countries control part of the region but govern it separately. Political and diplomatic ties between the two countries have fluctuated over the years, though they are currently strained. Relations between the two boards generally follow on from the political atmosphere at the time. Several years ago the PCB had mooted the idea of allotting a PSL franchise to Kashmir, though that never materialised.”The PCB considers that the BCCI has brought the game into disrepute by issuing warnings to multiple ICC Members to stop their retired cricketers from featuring in the Kashmir Premier League, further threatening they will not be allowed entry into India for cricket-related work,” the PCB said in a statement. “Such conduct from the BCCI is completely unacceptable, against the preamble of the Spirit of Cricket and sets a dangerous precedence, which can neither be tolerated nor ignored. The PCB will raise this matter at the appropriate ICC forum and also reserves the right to take any further action that is available to us within the ICC charter.”ESPNcricinfo has sent the PCB statement to BCCI secretary Jay Shah and asked for a BCCI response. The KPL has caused some internal friction as well, with franchises of the Pakistan Super League at one point unhappy that a new PCB-approved T20 league was going ahead and potentially cannibalising the PSL’s commercial space. The PSL has become the PCB’s showpiece product and the feeling among franchises was that another league, with big domestic names in it, would impact their own commercial rights and sponsor spending. The KPL will be broadcast and have a digital presence, and is attracting considerable local commercial interest. These apprehensions were expressed to the PCB last month, leading the board’s CEO to respond with assurances that they will safeguard the profile and importance of the PSL. Wasim Khan told franchise owners that the PSL remains the premier T20 tournament in the country. The PCB has not allowed the KPL to run at a time of its own choosing – it was postponed earlier this year to prevent a clash with the PSL. And according to Khan, the PCB will not allow its centrally contracted players to be involved in the KPL, effectively throwing doubts on the participation of Shadab and Usman Qadir. A big chunk of contracted players will anyway be in the West Indies for a two-match Test series. As well as the country’s most prominent players – all of whom play in the PSL as well as the National T20 Cup, Pakistan’s other T20 event – the league will be using PCB match officials as well as the services of its anti-corruption unit.India and Pakistan are set to face off again, this time on the field, at the T20 World Cup in October.
Having struggled to get his targets over the line in his first summer at the helm, Newcastle United sporting director Paul Mitchell is reportedly looking to land his first major coup by beating Real Madrid to an exciting young target.
Newcastle transfer news
The Magpies spent their summer chasing the signature of Marc Guehi, only to see their pursuit end in failure. Transfixed on the Crystal Palace captain, the club failed to consider alternatives and as such have been left short within Eddie Howe’s backline.
England defender Marc Guehi
Sporting director Mitchell has since spoken about the club’s disastrous summer, telling The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards: “Eddie was very clear and it’s not up to me after seven weeks to say, ‘We’ll do this and that’, because I’m in a supporting role. Were there options? Of course there were, as that’s the responsibility of the department and Newcastle.
“That’s why we ended up where we did. It was that player or he felt he was comfortable with the quality we have. You can be on multiple deals at any one time, the focus doesn’t have to be that narrow.
“We probably were too narrow but, coming in mid-July, it’s not my strategy to control, it’s my strategy to support. But there was no player that he (Howe) wasn’t part of deciding and saying, ‘That’s the guy I want’.”

Clearly in need of a rethink when it comes to strategy, the sporting director could now make one move in search of doing exactly that. According to iNews, Mitchell is plotting his first proper Newcastle coup by signing Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong from Chelsea ahead of European giants Real Madrid.
Getting one over on such a club in the transfer market is quite the rarity, representing just how key an achievement it would be for Mitchell and Newcastle.
"Dominant" Acheampong is one for the future
Just 18 years old, Acheampong is one of many young players waiting to break through at Chelsea, but as that long list of names grows every summer, he may be better off turning towards Newcastle and a backline in desperate need of reinforcements. Whilst his best form will come in years to come, the Chelsea academy graduate may well be best-placed to take advantage of the Magpies’ defensive crisis after their summer failure.
The youngster is certainly rated highly too, with analyst Ben Mattinson describing him as a “dominant wide-channel” defender alongside fellow Chelsea gem Ishe Samuels-Smith.
As Mitchell looks to restore some credit with those at St James’ Park, beating Real Madrid to a player who seems destined for great things would be the perfect place to start in 2025. Acheampong would be his first real coup as Newcastle sporting director and perhaps the start of many.
No Tamim Iqbal, no Liton Das and no Mushfiqur Rahim. Bangladesh’s plans of putting it past a depleted Australia side in what is the first bilateral T20I series between the two teams have been impacted by the absence of three key batters, but they are particularly unhappy about Rahim missing out, because it’s been caused by Australia’s “stringent” demands when it comes to the biosecure bubble for the series. A day after Russell Domingo, the coach, expressed his displeasure on the matter, captain Mahmudullah, too, said he was “very disappointed” but his focus was on the series and what he and the other players could control.Related
Bangladesh unhappy as Mushfiqur is forced out
'We want to play on good wickets ahead of T20 WC'
“Mushfiq is definitely one of our most crucial players, and I am personally very disappointed at not having him in the side for this series,” Mahmudullah said at a press conference on the eve of the first of five T20Is. “But, look, being a player, it’s not in our hands. The aim is to play good cricket and do well in terms of the results.”We are not worrying about it too much, because it’s not an issue we can do anything about. What has happened has happened. The only objective is to start and end the series well.”What has happened is that Cricket Australia and the Bangladesh Cricket Board had agreed to include their respective biosecure bubbles in Zimbabwe and the West Indies – where they were on tour – as part of the mandatory pre-series ten-day quarantine in Dhaka. But Rahim had to leave Harare for home after both his parents contracted Covid-19. As a result, he can’t be in the Dhaka biosecure bubble now. Some team insiders were especially irked because while Rahim wasn’t allowed to join the team, the players who have returned from Zimbabwe have had to do so after going through four airports – Harare, Johannesburg, Doha and Dhaka – with potentially greater exposure to the virus.Speaking on Sunday, Domingo had said, “I can’t understand the stringent rules Australia have placed on Mushfiq’s bubble. Ten days [on re-entering the bubble after visiting family] surely would have been enough, so [it’s] very disappointing the way they went about it.”Stressing that the absence of the three regulars would not make them bring down their expectations against a team they have never beaten in the format, Mahmudullah said the while living in biosecure bubbles was not ideal, there were some positives too.”The bio-bubble system is such that you have to accept it, there is no question of stepping out of it if you want to play cricket,” he said. So yes, it is difficult, not just for me but for everyone, who have parents, partners, children… you miss them. But, having said that, we have to accept it and move forward till we don’t win the fight against Covid.”The bubble is tiring at times. But there is a positive to it too – you can spend more time with your team-mates, you can discuss plans and strategies and your games with each other a lot more. We are together all the time, so we can bring up subjects with each other that can have a positive impact on our games, and that helps the team too.”
Adam Rossington’s 59* steers Northamptonshire to safety after hosts declare 62 runs adrift
ECB Reporters Network06-Jun-2021Kent have drawn their LV= Insurance County Championship match with Northamptonshire, despite an engrossing final day at Canterbury. An obdurate Adam Rossington eventually steered the visitors to safety with an unbeaten 59, but only after a brave declaration by the home side on their overnight score of 330 for 5, when they were still 62 runs behind.Nathan Gilchrist took 3 for 57 and Darren Stevens 2 for 42 as Kent scented an unlikely Group Three victory, only for the game to drift away in the final session, Northamptonshire finishing on 184 for 8 dec. With Northants reluctant to risk the eight points for the draw by contriving a finish, Kent gambled on declaring early in the hope of recording their first win of the season and they were rewarded with four wickets in the morning session.Stevens struck in the second over, removing Emilio Gay lbw for eight and he then had Ricardo Vasconcelos caught behind for nine. After three matches without a wicket, Miguel Cummins, on the last day of his stint with Kent, finally looked like the bowler they thought they were getting when they signed him, and a spell of serious menace saw him get Rob Keogh caught behind for 12.Jordan Cox then took a sharp catch at first slip off Gilchrist to remove Gareth Berg for 21, leaving Northants on 70 for 4 at lunch.Related

The afternoon session was fascinatingly balanced: every time Northants seemed to be heading for safety, Kent took a wicket. Gilchrist struck again in his first over, getting Saif Zaib caught behind for six, but Cummings was denied a second wicket when Luke Procter, batting despite an injury, edged him to third slip, where he was put down by Marcus O’Riordan. After putting on 50 with Rossington, Procter was brilliantly run out for 17 by Daniel Bell-Drummond, after being sent back by his captain while attempting a single.Cox took another excellent slip catch off Gilchrist to dismiss Tom Taylor for 12 and when Nathan Buck was lbw for 6 to Joe Denly the lead was a gettable 212, with 45 overs remaining. However, the visitors had pushed on to 156 for 8 at tea and the only chance of a tepid evening session came when Simon Kerrigan was dropped at short leg by Tawanda Muyeye off Denly. After seeing their attack picked apart by Premier League interest this summer, Leeds United have reportedly reignited their interest in signing a Bundesliga star for Daniel Farke.
Leeds transfer news
The Whites find themselves in a fairly frantic position in the final days of the transfer window, having lost Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray, Glen Kamara and, most recently, Georginio Rutter. The attacking midfielder completed his move to Brighton & Hove Albion to leave the side that helped Leeds reach last season's playoff final in tatters.
That said, as Transfermarkt have highlighted, those at Elland Road now have plenty of money to spend on reinforcements, which could reportedly see the likes of Manuel Benson and Largie Ramazani arrive to hand Farke some much-needed attacking additions.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Yorkshire club have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Ramazani from Almeria, with the winger set to undergo a medical before joining up with his new teammates and potentially another winger at Elland Road as soon as possible.
According to Graham Smyth of The Yorkshire Evening Post via Leeds All Over and Sky Sports' Tim Thornton, Leeds have reignited their interest in signing Roland Sallai after seeing their initial attempts knocked back by Freiburg earlier this summer. The Bundesliga club's stance has now reportedly changed, however, and the 27-year-old has become more attainable.
Imagine him & Ampadu: Leeds battling to sign £7m "absolute baller"
The Whites are reportedly interested in a swoop to sign the Premier League midfielder.
2 ByDan Emery Aug 21, 2024
Of course, some will remember Sallai from the heartbreak he helped to inflict on Scotland at Euro 2024, assisting Kevin Csoboth's last-gasp winner to knock Steve Clarke's side out and give Hungary hope that eventually failed to turn into qualification out of Group A.
Alas, with just over a week left in the summer transfer window, Leeds will have to act fast if they want to secure the winger's signature.
"Determined" Sallai could replace Summerville
Replacing Summerville is no easy task. He is a player of Premier League quality, as he will likely show this season at West Ham United. But, Sallai is one of the candidates who should, on paper, slot straight into his role and thrive under Farke, especially when dropping down from the Bundesliga.
Roland Sallai for Hungary.
The 26-year-old has impressed in Germany's top flight, stealing the show for Freiburg at times, with eight goals and four assists in all competitions last season. Described as "determined" by former Freiburg manager Christian Streich, Sallai could now get the chance to pick up where he left off in an impressive Euro 2024 in the Championship this season.
Compared to Benson and Forbs, Sallai certainly has more experience at the top level, featuring in the Europa League last season. Of course, that means that his signature could come at a certain price, but Frieburg's reported change of stance may just open the door for Leeds to secure a cheaper deal.
If it is to be the Hungarian with Ramazani, then Sallai will be one to watch this season.
