Reforçar a marcação?

Apesar do resultado negativo, Rentería reforçou o sistema ofensivo do Alvinegro.

Arsenal: Club Will "Rush" To Sign Arteta’s "Brave" Star

Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun continues to be the subject of intense interest heading into the final weeks of this transfer window, with news emerging on Monaco's pursuit.

Who will leave Arsenal?

The Gunners and manager Mikel Arteta have sealed a quartet of deals so far this summer, completing the signings of Kai Havertz, defender Jurrien Timber, goalkeeper David Raya and, of course, club-record acquisition Declan Rice.

Arsenal have also been linked with more, including the likes of Dinamo Zagreb defender Josip Sutalo and Barcelona forward Ansu Fati, but it is believed they'll need to balance the books first.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Auston Trusty, Pablo Mari, Matt Turner and long-serving midfielder Granit Xhaka have all officially departed north London so far. Meanwhile, exit links continue to surround the likes of Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nicolas Pepe.

The former has been heavily mentioned as a target for league newcomers Burnley, while the latter is thought to be a wanted man in Turkey with Besiktas.

Perhaps the most regularly mentioned name, though, is Balogun – who is being chased by a plethora of sides including AC Milan, Inter Milan, Monaco and West Ham.

The USA international, who enjoyed a fine campaign on loan at Reims over 2022/2023, could well depart before September 1 as he seeks more game time.

French news outlet RMC Sport, sharing the latest on Balogun's future, has an interesting update on the 22-year-old and where he could end up next.

This report concerns Monaco, who have just signed midfielder Denis Zakaria for around £17.2 million. Indeed, now that they have closed that deal, it is believed they will now "rush" to sign Arsenal's forward.

The Ligue 1 side are displaying real ambition this summer and it is claimed they are set to move for Balogun after completing Zakaria's signing.

Nothing else is said on the matter or how much they're planning to bid, but it appears Monaco's intent is still certainly there.

How good is Folarin Balogun?

folarin-balogun-arsenal-premier-league-everton-transfers

Scorer of 21 goals in the French first division last campaign, Balogun's stock has seriously risen since last summer, with many clubs taking note of his exploits.

The race for his services appears to be intensifying and Arsenal stand to benefit if an auction is triggered for the attacker.

After spending north of £200 million, Arteta's side will certainly be hoping that is the case, with the Gunners boss' recent comments on Balogun suggesting he is worth a sizeable fee.

"I’m so happy for him,” Arteta said on Balogun's form last season.

“He’s a boy that has a really clear idea of what he wants to do with his career. He’s really ambitious, really committed and really brave.

“We discussed a lot before he made that move whether it was the right place to go and the other choices he had. He was so convinced. I’m really happy for him because he deserves what he’s getting.

“When you look at the numbers and what he is doing, it’s just incredible. It’s very rare to see that. But he’s got something special, that’s why we decided to give him a long-term contract and have faith in him and give him the long period that he needs now, because the loan he is having now is really different to the one he had before at Middlesbrough."

Tottenham: "Top" Spurs Star Now "Heading" Out The Door

Tottenham Hotspur are "set to cut their losses" on Tanguy Ndombele and it looks like he's "heading to Galatasaray", according to journalist Darren Lewis.

Who will leave Spurs?

Barring the obvious one repeatedly linked with a Spurs exit, namely star striker Harry Kane, there are a fair few others who could depart with the Englishman.

The Lilywhites, after sealing three major signings in goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, midfielder James Maddison and winger Manor Solomon, may have to balance the books as we enter the final phase of this transfer window.

Spurs are also rumoured to be closing in on deals for both Wolfsburg's Micky van de Ven and Blackburn Rovers starlet Ashley Phillips, making the need to offload fringe squad members even greater.

Ivan Perisic, Davinson Sanchez, Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are just some of the players mentioned (The Telegraph), alongside goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who has even admitted this window could mark the "end of an era".

“We have reached an important moment, whether it be for the club or me,” said Lloris to Nice-Matin.

“It’s the end of an era. I have a desire for something else. I will carefully study what is possible. However, I haven’t forgotten that I have a year left on my contract at Tottenham, and in football, it’s always hard to predict what will happen."

Ndombele, who has spent the last one and a half seasons various loan spells at Lyon and Napoli, looked set to be handed a chance by Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou – who praised the 26-year-old for his application in pre-season training.

"Tanguy has been good," said Postecoglou ahead of Tottenham's pre-season tour.

"He's been working hard in training, as they all have because they've got no choice.

"I take things as I see them. He was part of a Serie A-winning side last season, and he's been working well. Within that context, I'm pleased to have him here and part of the group. What that means for the long-term, we'll see."

However, reports in the last week have indicated that chance may have come and gone, with reporter Lewis echoing that in a piece for The Daily Mirror.

He says that Tottenham are "set to cut their losses" on Ndombele this summer and he is "heading to Galatasaray".

The Turkish Super Lig side are aiming for an £11 million deal, and due to Maddison's arrival, Postecoglou will have that consistent creativity in midfield – making the need for Ndombele absent.

What's been said about Tanguy Ndombele?

The Frenchman simply hasn't displayed his raw quality on a regular enough basis over his four-year Tottenham stay, so now could be time to call it a day.

Ndombele has previously been praised for his undoubted talent, with Arsenal star Declan Rice even claiming last summer that the midfielder is one of the toughest opponents he's ever faced.

"I tell you now, he is one of the toughest I have played against," explained Rice.

“He is top. Just a street footballer on the pitch. He takes the ball anywhere, little flicks and tricks. Like he doesn’t care. He does everything so confidently.

“With players like that, you just have to let them play. Give them the freedom to go out and do whatever they want. When we played against Lyon in the Europa League, he was incredible. He’s a top player.”

Recalled Porter keeps Essex believing

Jamie Porter responded to his recall in style to keep Essex still hoping for a quarter-final place

Jamie Porter’s career-best return of 4 for 20 propelled Essex to a three-wicket victory over Gloucestershire at Bristol and revived their hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the NatWest T20 Blast.Requiring victory to move back into the top four in the South Group, Gloucestershire posted a below-par 121 for 8, their lowest total of the season in the short format.Varun Chopra top-scored with 44, smashing five fours and three sixes during the Powerplay, as Essex reached their target with 3.4 overs to spare.Omitted from the Essex line-up after proving expensive in the opening three matches, Porter came back in for Matt Dixon and grabbed his latest opportunity with both hands. The 24-year-old right-arm seamer opened his account in style, inducing Gloucestershire talisman Michael Klinger to hole out to Paul Walter at deep square leg for nine. He then returned to the attack in the 12th over to inflict further damage on Gloucestershire’s middle order, removing Ian Cockbain, Jack Taylor and Kieran Noema-Barnett in rapid succession. The only batsman to score fluently, Cockbain had harvested 32 from 25 balls when he succumbed to a misjudgement, hoisting a length ball high to Walter on the midwicket boundary.Porter struck again later in the same over, bowling the dangerous Jack Taylor via an inside edge, and then held onto a return catch to send back Kieran Noema-Barnett, Gloucestershire’s match-winner against Somerset in the previous game at Bristol.Back in the side as one of Gloucestershire’s two permitted overseas players, Australian batsman Cameron Bancroft added 49 for the third wicket with Cockbain, only to blot his copybook by chopping a short delivery from Walter onto his stumps after contributing 23 at a run a ball.Once Porter had wreaked havoc on the middle order, Gloucestershire were heavily dependent upon all-rounder Benny Howell, who represented their last realistic prospect of posting a challenging total. One of only four batsmen to clear the boundary, Howell made 20 before being undone by late swing and falling lbw to Pakistani paceman Mohammad Amir, who had earlier bowled veteran campaigner Phil Mustard.Charged with the task of making the best of a bad job, Gloucestershire’s tail-enders found the going tough in the face of nagging accuracy from Amir and former England one-day specialist Ravi Bopara, who conceded just 41 runs between them from eight overs as the home side fell short. In no mood to hang about, Chopra plundered 24 runs off one Matt Taylor over as Essex raised 58 for 2 from the Powerplay to stamp their authority. His violent 20-ball innings was terminated by a Chris Liddle yorker, while slow left-armer Tom Smith removed Bopara, Ryan ten Doeschate and James Foster inside two overs to offer Gloucestershire renewed hope. But it was snuffed out by Walter, who batted with an assurance that belied his status as a lower-order batsman to see Essex home.

Oh brother! Billy Root grabs share of limelight

While Joe Root took wickets in England’s easy victory against Ireland in Bristol, brother Billy was having a ball as he struck a maiden List A century against Warwickshire at Trent Bridge

Billy Root’s maiden limited-overs century lifted Notts Outlaws to a precious ten-run Royal London Cup victory over Warwickshire at Edgbaston. While brother Joe was making easy meat of Ireland in Bristol with bat and ball, lesser-known Billy was having the best day of his career. The Outlaws made a meaty 303 for 6 from 50 overs thanks to Root’s unbeaten 107, supported by Steven Mullaney’s 89. Their stand of 159 was a List A fifth-wicket record for Notts.Jonathan Trott then continued his prolific 50-over form with his 21st limited-overs century but the chase proved beyond his colleagues as the Bears fell short on 293 for 9.”The century just snuck up on me really,” Root said. “I wasn’t thinking about it, it was just a question of trying to score as many runs as possible. There were a lot of high-fives in the dressing-room which was nice.”I haven’t checked my messages yet but I am sure there will be one from Joe. It’s nice to be selected for the start of a competition and then it’s your job to try to contribute and I am happy to have done so today.”After Notts chose to bat, the innings began with two maidens but Michael Lumb was soon batting in typically forthright fashion, smashing three sixes in 16 balls. He received little top-order support though as Rikki Wessels was bowled, trying to sweep Keith Barker, Samit Patel hoisted Olly Hannon-Dalby to long-leg and Brendan Taylor fell lbw to Josh Poysden. When Lumb also perished lbw to Poysden for 56, the Outlaws were 92 for 4 but Mullaney, back after injury for the first time this season, and Root counter-attacked.Mullaney showed how much his nous and skill have been missed by Notts with a classy innings which ended when he made room to carve Barker over the off-side and was bowled. But Root, showing a composure and strokeplay of which brother Joe would have been proud, kept the runs flowing. He reached his ton in the final over which, delivered by Olly Hannon-Dalby, went for 19 and left Warwickshire chasing 300-plus for the third time in five days. They were solidly launched by a stand of 104 in 18.1 overs by Trott and Sam Hain before the latter was trapped lbw by James Pattinson.Trott reached his ton with a single off Stuart Broad, following an entertaining tussle with his former England colleague, but the applause had barely died away before he lifted Mullaney tamely to mid-on.Mullaney’s fine match continued when he dismissed Ian Bell and Tim Ambrose, who missed sweeps to fatal effect, and the Bears’ wobble continued when Matt Lamb, on his List A debut, was bowled by Pattinson.Warwickshire needed 49 from the last five overs and as the pressure mounted Rikki Clarke and Keith Barker sent up skiers. Sixteen from the final over proved too much despite the perky efforts of Aaron Thomason.

Liverpool Could Land £77m Swoop At Anfield

Liverpool missed out on qualification for the Champions League group stages as they finished fifth in the Premier League at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

The Reds ended up four points adrift of Newcastle United in their pursuit of a top-four place and will be competing in the Europa League next term.

Their failure to secure top-tier European football has not prevented them from being able to bolster their squad, though, as Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have both arrived to improve Jurgen Klopp's options in the middle of the park.

The midfield has seemingly been targeted as a priority position to strengthen after Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all left on free transfers, while Fabio Carvalho has gone on loan to RB Leipzig and Arthur has returned to Juventus after his temporary spell.

There could be further additions in that area of the pitch, given that they currently have three fewer options than they had last season, and Real Madrid's Federico Valverde is one who could come through the door.

Where would Federico Valverde fit in at Liverpool?

The reported €90m (£77m) transfer target for the Reds could be the dream replacement for Oxlade-Chamberlain as a goalscoring midfield player for Klopp.

Real Madrid Federico Valverde.

During his injury-ravaged time at Anfield, the former England international showed signs of being a talented scorer from the middle of the park. Indeed, in his last season with more than 40 appearances, the ex-Arsenal man plundered eight goals and three assists during the 2019/20 campaign.

He missed a whopping 88 competitive matches through injury for Liverpool since 2017, meaning that the 29-year-old was rarely able to hit his stride due to a lack of regular game time.

Valverde, however, has only been absent for 37 games throughout the same period. The Uruguay international also showcased his ability as a goalscorer during the 2022/23 season with Real Madrid, where he found the back of the net 12 times in 56 outings.

Federico Valverde's 2022/23 statistics.

The above graphic, as provided by Opta, shows that the 24-year-old is among the best in his position for goals and shots, which illustrates how much of an impact he can make in the final third from a midfield slot.

For context, Curtis Jones was Liverpool's top-scoring midfielder last season with three strikes, which suggests that Valverde would provide Klopp with a much-needed upgrade in that area as he scored seven goals in 29 LaLiga starts to prove himself to be a reliable attacking outlet.

The £181k-per-week ace, who was once described as "untouchable" by boss Carlo Ancelotti, averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.25 across 34 league appearances for the Spanish giants – a score that would have placed him second in the Reds squad, only behind Trent Alexander-Arnold (7.32).

These numbers prove that Valverde has the potential to be an incredible addition for Klopp if the talented Uruguayan is capable of translating his form from Spain in England.

Such a prospect would no doubt make him the dream replacement for Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.

Celtic Agree To Sign "Very Versatile" Player; Pundit Reacts

Pundit Alan Hutton has been giving his thoughts on Celtic’s interest in Melbourne City forward Marco Tilio.

Are Celtic signing Marco Tilio?

Brendan Rodgers appears to have been given the green light to go on a summer spending spree following his Parkhead return, with club officials budgeting the Northern Irishman £30m for transfers.

Odin Thiago Holm, who can play in a range of midfield roles, has been confirmed as the first summer arrival, signing a five-year deal from Valerenga, and it looks as if Tilio could be next.

According to Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, Celtic have agreed terms with Tilio. Paperwork is reportedly being finalised and the Hoops hope to complete the transfer at some point this week.

Talking to Football Insider about the player and a possible move to Celtic Park, Hutton, who contributes to various media outlets including Sky Sports, labelled Tilio as “very versatile” who would “ticks a lot of boxes” in Glasgow.

“From what I have seen of him I would bring him in. For someone so young, he is very versatile.

“As a full-back, he is very difficult to defend against. He is small, low centre of gravity and can go both ways with pace. I think he would be another option.

“Reading into it, he is coming from Melbourne, I think this was one that was already in the pipeline under Ange. They have put the work in to go along with it already but he definitely ticks a lot of the boxes.

“It is somebody that the Celtic fans would probably really enjoy watching. We do not know what is happening with Abada, will he move? So there could be a free space there.”

Who is Marco Tilio?

Tilio is primarily a right-winger but can also play on the left or as an attacking midfielder, so as Hutton claims, would offer a versatile attacking option for Rodgers heading into the new season.

Aged 21, the Australian has contributed to 39 goals in 82 appearances for Melbourne, and he even shares the agency as Ange Postecoglou, so could have been on the former Hoops boss’ radar before leaving for Tottenham, as Hutton states.

It will be interesting to see if his arrival means someone like Liel Abada moves on over the coming months, amid reports earlier this year the Celtic ace had rejected a new deal and wanted to leave Parkhead, with Tilio then potentially looking to establish himself as first choice on the right-hand side.

Tottenham: Ange "Driving" Spurs Move For "Unplayable" Star

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou is personally "driving" a Spurs move for Leicester City playmaker James Maddison, according to reports.

Who could Spurs sign this summer?

As the transfer window officially opens for business today, the time for a major Spurs rebuild is now upon us, with many players being tipped to potentially leave or come through the door.

Postecoglou's arrival marks the return of attacking football and a 4-3-3 formation, meaning chairman Daniel Levy must now scour for players who suit his system.

Of the players who could depart N17, there are many, with over 11 players being linked to leaving. Indeed, Hugo Lloris, Ivan Perisic, Davinson Sanchez, Ryan Sessegnon, Lenglet, Eric Dier and Ben Davies have all been tipped to potentially exit, while Spurs are also apparently planning to offload Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Harry Winks (The Telegraph).

Meanwhile, it is believed Postecoglou has green-lit plans to sign a new centre-back, with reports suggesting Spurs are also hunting for a new goalkeeper to succeed Lloris. Maddison, who looks set to leave Leicester following their relegation from the top flight, is a firm transfer target as well.

james-maddison-newcastle-united-transfer-news-opinion-premier-league

The Lilywhites, according to reports, are contending with Eddie Howe's Newcastle for the England international with reliable journalist Nizaar Kinsella of The Evening Standard sharing an update.

According to his information, while the Magpies are confident of beating Spurs to Maddison, Postecoglou is personally "driving" a move to bring him to Hotspur Way.

The Foxes will apparently demand around £45m and he is set to be sold after Leicester's drop to the Championship, with Spurs targeting a creative playmaker this summer.

Postecoglou has given his green-light to moving for Maddison, but with Newcastle now "frontrunners", Spurs could face a tougher task of signing him.

Who is James Maddison?

The Three Lions ace was, by some distance, Leicester's best player last season.

According to WhoScored, he stood out as their best-performing player by average match rating, all whilst totalling an impressive 19 goal contributions in the league alone (10 goals, nine assists).

Maddison also averaged more attempts at goal and key passes made per 90 than any other Leicester player, highlighting why Postecoglou is so keen to bring him to north London.

Journalist Josh Bunting, taking to Twitter last year, heaped praise on the 26-year-old – claiming he can be "unplayable" when at his very best.

Whoever wins the race for Maddison will surely have a real player on their hands.

Leeds Concerned That £55k-A-Week Ace Could Leave

Leeds United are reportedly worried that Tyler Adams will opt to join Manchester United in the summer transfer window, should the Whites be relegated from the Premier League.

Has Adams been a key figure for Leeds?

It has been a season to forget at Elland Road and Leeds now face the likely threat of relegation to the Championship this weekend, unless they perform a memorable escape act.

Too many players have underperformed through the campaign, as has the team as a unit, but Adams has arguably been one of the few success stories. The £55,000-a-week American joined the Whites from RB Leipzig and has been a key figure, making 24 starts in the league and averaging 3.4 tackles per match.

Adams has been a huge loss through injury in recent weeks, not helping Leeds' struggles in the slightest, and he will play no part in the must-win game at home to Tottenham on Sunday afternoon. It could even be that he has played his last game for the club, if a fresh report is to believed, even though the Whites clearly want to keep hold of him.

Could Adams depart Elland Road?

According to Football Insider, Leeds "fear they have no chance of keeping hold of Adams if they are relegated", amid interest from United. The report states that "Adams is wanted by multiple clubs in the Premier League and in top European leagues, and Leeds are unlikely to keep hold of him if they go down".

The Red Devils are "among the teams keeping tabs on Adams, whose dynamism and energy in midfield has impressed their recruitment team."

In truth, it would be hard to expect Adams to stay put at Leeds if they are in the Championship next season, with loyalty one thing but top players also wanting to be performing at the highest level.

For that reason, the 24-year-old should be expected to move on if relegation does come the Whites' way, although seeing him join United would be touch to stomach, given the rivalry between the pair. The hope is that he realises that himself, and instead opts to move elsewhere and not negatively impact his relationship with Leeds supporters.

Adams would be a massive loss, as he has already been recently – journalist Henry Winter hailed him as "superb" for the USA during the 2022 World Cup – and if he does exit Elland Road, it is vital that the club use the funds wisely this summer, with a hefty fee likely to come their way.
