West Ham make concrete moves for Simeone

According to a report by TUTTOmercatoWEB, as translated and shared by Sport Witness, West Ham have now made ‘concrete moves’ for Cagliari forward Giovanni Simeone.

The Lowdown: West Ham scouring for striker…

West Ham have been monitoring new centre-forwards for some time, with ExWHUemployee previously claiming Ivan Toney, Tammy Abraham, Adam Armstrong and Youssef En-Nesyri were on the radar.

More recently, the likes of Paul Onuachu have also sprung into contention for a summer move to east London.

Star striker Michail Antonio suffered a variety of injury issues over 2020/2021 and West Ham need to bolster their forward line ahead of a busy campaign in the Europa League.

The Latest: West Ham have now made ‘concrete moves’ for Simeone…

As per TMW (via Sport Witness), West Ham have now made ‘concrete moves’ for Simeone alongside Ligue 1 giants Marseille.

He is attracting a lot of attention from rival clubs this summer in Italy too, with Torino, Sampdoria and Bologna all interested in a swoop.

It is the Irons and Marseille, though, who have made ‘concrete’ moves for the player – with Simeone himself tempted by the prospect of playing abroad.

The 25-year-old has apparently ‘winked’ at interested clubs across the continent with a desire to test his abilities away from Italy.

The Verdict: Better options…

Simeone has bagged 50 Serie A goals in total since first moving to the division in 2016, having enjoyed stints at Genoa, Fiorentina and now Cagliari.

The fact he is eager to test himself abroad could also help West Ham make a move, but we believe the Irons are better targeting other forwards.

Strikers like Toney (33 goals), Armstrong (29 goals) and Onuachu (35 goals), who have all just enjoyed prolific seasons throughout all competitions, arguably come as better options.

Wolfsburg join Southampton in Danjuma race

An update has emerged regarding Wolfsburg’s interest in Southampton transfer target Arnaut Danjuma.

What’s the talk?

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Bundesliga club have joined the Saints in the race to sign the Bournemouth winger Arnaut. The journalist claimed that there is a chance Danjuma will leave the Cherries, with Champions League outfit Wolfsburg now eyeing him up.

Southampton have reportedly held an interest in signing the Dutch international this summer. Ralph Hasenhuttl wants to add at least one winger to his squad to bolster his attacking options heading into next season.

Earlier this year, Clinton Morrison lauded Danjuma as an exceptional talent and stated that he will be playing Premier League football next season. He told Quest, via Football League World: “Danjuma is an excellent player .Whatever happens, he will be playing Premier League football next year, whether it’s with Bournemouth or without them. He’s an exceptional talent.”

Ralph needs him

Martin Semmens must sanction a swoop for Danjuma this summer following this latest update. The Southampton chief needs to act quickly to ensure that the Saints do not miss out on the 24-year-old’s signature to Wolfsburg, with the German club now showing an interest in the Dutchman.

Hasenhuttl needs Danjuma at St Mary’s as he would provide the Austrian with something the Saints were desperately lacking last season; goals from out wide.

Stuart Armstrong was Southampton’s top scorer in terms of attacking midfielders with four goals in the Premier League. He was also the most prolific supplier from out wide, with five assists to his name, whilst Theo Walcott and Nathan Redmond managed three and two goals respectively.

This suggests that Southampton were bereft of quality in the wide midfield positions in Hasenhuttl’s favoured 4-2-2-2 formation, and he needs a quality winger to come in and provide frequent goals and assists in the Premier League.

Danjuma could be that man as he produced 24 goals and assists for Bournemouth in the Championship. The 24-year-old scored 17 and set up another seven in 31 Championship starts for the Cherries, averaging a superb WhoScored rating of 7.21. He also showed that he has the bottle to turn up in big games, with goals in both legs of their play-off semi-final clash with Brentford, only to be let down by his teammates as they lost out to the eventual play-off winners.

Therefore, Danjuma could have the quality Hasenhuttl needs from his wide attacking midfielders. The Bournemouth man has shown that he can be an outstanding talent in the Championship and Southampton need to give him the chance to prove that he can do it in the Premier League as well. Hopefully Semmens can swoop in ahead of Wolfsburg and secure a deal for the winger in the coming weeks and months.

Villa receive Jack Grealish boost

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Express and Star journalist Luke Hatfield has suggested that Manchester United will likely end their interest in Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish after signing Jadon Sancho.

Speaking to FFC, Hatfield said:

“Man United was obviously the big one last season. It looks like they’ve kind of changed their tack a little bit. Jadon Sancho looks to be coming through the door there.

“He plays a similar position, obviously on the wing, normally on the other side for Dortmund.”

Sancho’s move to Manchester United is now official, and after shelling out a reported £73m on the England international, it seems unlikely that they would be willing to spend the necessary fee to bring Grealish to Old Trafford this summer.

Although Manchester City are likely to still be interested in the 25-year-old, it is undoubtedly a big boost for Smith and Aston Villa that one of the main contenders to sign Grealish this summer are now seemingly out of the race.

If the Villans can keep hold of their talismanic captain this summer, then it could prove to be a very successful season for Smith’s side, especially if he can combine well with summer signing Emiliano Buendia.

Last season saw Grealish contribute an impressive six goals and 10 assists in 26 Premier League appearances, averaging a superb 7.56/10 rating from WhoScored for his performances, which was unsurprisingly enough to see him ranked as the best player in Smith’s side for the 2020/21 campaign.

The “incredible” attacker is likely to attract a lot of interest after some strong showings at the Euros but if Hatfield’s prediction is true and United have ended their reported interest in Grealish, whixh does make sense given they’ve now splashed the cash on Sancho, then it would be a massive boost for their hopes of keeping Grealish at Villa Park, which will obviously delight Villa fans.

Should Wolves sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek?

Wolves are enjoying an interesting summer so far after Bruno Lage came in to replace Nuno Santo at Molineux.

It was a surprise departure but the man who succeeded their head coach of four years ticked all of the boxes.

The Old Gold had tracked Lage for a considerable period of time and with Jorge Mendes his agent, it made a move seamless.

On the chalkboard

Lage’s first marquee signing was Trincao from Barcelona but he faces a potential excruciating end to the summer.

That’s because a number of the club’s top players including Adama Traore and Ruben Neves could be heading for the departure lounge.

The latter has been one of the stand out players for the Midlands outfit since signing when they were still in the Championship.

He’s gone from the second tier’s record signing to a reliable and consistent former. Neves was often the quarterback in Nuno’s Wolves team but began to pick up pockets further forward last season.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-wolves-transfer-news-ceballos-zinchenko-euros-felix-lage” title=”Read the latest Wolves transfer news!”]

The Portugal international scored five times last term, the highest volume of goals he’s racked up since his debut in English football.

Therefore, the new manager will need to replace him with not only a player capable of breaking up the play but also one that’s effective in the final third.

The solution

One replacement could be Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The England international spent last season on loan at relegated Fulham but Thomas Tuchel isn’t particularly keen on sending him out again.

The Blues are planning on taking a look at him over pre-season but Wolves legend Steve Bull reckons he’s a player that would fit in well at Molineux.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast last month, Bull said: “He’d be ideal, I’ve watched him quite a few times and he’s big, sturdy, not afraid to put his foot in or put his head where it hurts. If they were to bring him in I’d take him all day long.”

Loftus-Cheek is a classic box to box midfielder, using his long levers and energetic style to get from one end of the pitch to the other in the blink of an eye.

That said, he disappointed last term with the Cottagers, averaging a WhoScored match rating of only 6.5.

Though, in the words of Scott Parker, he is “unplayable” on his day. Like Neves, the midfielder is incredibly assured in possession of the ball, competing over 90% of his passes in two seasons for Chelsea.

Furthermore, he knows how to make an impact offensively. Loftus-Cheek bagged ten times during the 2018/19 campaign, being hailed as an “unstoppable force” by Owen Hargreaves after scoring a Champions League hat-trick.

The 25-year-old’s progress in the last few years has been dented by injury but he is a brutal midfielder once he gets going.

Loftus-Cheek is an adequate tackler and when it comes to replacing Neves, that will be one of the basic requirements.

On a wage of £150k-per-week, he will have to significantly reduce his salary in order to move to Midlands.

If he can rediscover his form, something Bull tipped him to do in a recent interview with This is Futbol, he’d be a solid capture.

Everton transfer update on Kurt Zouma

Many Everton fans have been left gushing as a transfer update emerged on Kurt Zouma.

As per Telefoot journalist Julien Maynard, the defender is expected to leave Chelsea in the summer transfer window, and Everton, Tottenham and AS Roma are all interested in his signature.

Zouma has already declined a move to Wolves, meaning that the Merseyside club still have a chance to secure his services.

The France international enjoyed a fruitful spell while on loan at the Toffees in 2018/19, winning 4.8 of his duels per game in the Premier League, while also averaging 3.8 clearances, 1.7 interceptions and one tackle per match, keeping 10 clean sheets in the process (Sofascore).

A return to Goodison Park could well be a match made in heaven under former Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez.

CPFC: Fans react to Nketiah and Dolberg interest

Crystal Palace are interested in Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah and Nice’s Kasper Dolberg, according to The Sun.

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, new Eagles manager Patrick Vieira is going back to his former clubs in an attempt to add extra firepower to his squad. Nketiah is thought to be available for £20m, whereas Dolberg is up for sale at £25m.

Vieira was the man who signed Dolberg for Nice, with the Denmark international scoring 17 goals in 55 appearances for the French club.

Nixon claims that the 45-year-old is only likely to sign one of the two, with links to Watford winger Ismaila Sarr and Copenhagen centre-back Victor Nelsson also mentioned in the report.

Liverpool fans love Konate video

A number of Liverpool supporters have been showing their love for Ibrahima Konate, following footage of his first official interview at his new club.

The hope is that the Reds are about to embark on a strong summer in the transfer window, with a number of new signings joining the Jurgen Klopp revolution.

One player who has already arrived is Konate, having joined in May after catching the eye for Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig.

Liverpool had a disastrous time of things at centre-back last season, losing Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip for much of ther campaign, so a new defender was badly needed.

On Thursday, Konate sat down for his first interview with the Reds, coming across brilliantly and showing he could be a big character at the club.

Hatfield: Managers are willing to gamble on Wolves’ Adama Traore

There will always be a manager ready to gamble on Wolves’ Adama Traore, claims Express & Star journalist Luke Hatfield.

Traore continues to be linked with some big clubs, including Premier League rivals Chelsea as they look to build on their European success.

According to The Athletic, the Blues maintain an interest in the £27m-rated 25-year-old, with Thomas Tuchel keen to strengthen his options out wide.

Last season, Traore was not at his best. He scored just two goals and provided the same amount of assists, a drop off from the nine he registered the campaign prior.

Even so, Hatfield believes managers will always be attracted to the Spain international. He told FFC:

“With Traore, I think everyone will always take a punt on him. There’ll always be a manager willing to take a punt on someone like Traore, particularly at that higher level where they think, you know, they can coach the best out of him.

“We’ve not seen a consistent Adama Traore really, maybe apart from the season before last. If he can get back to that, he’s certainly a player who’s worth a serious amount of money.”

While his end product is still not quite there yet, or at least not consistently, Traore still brings a lot with his dribbling.

Averaging 4.1 dribbles per game last term, no Premier League player made more (via WhoScored), so you can see why the former Middlesbrough man is attracting interest this summer.

Palmer says Manchester United need to sign another striker

Former Premier League star Carlton Palmer believes that Manchester United could do with signing another striker.

The Red Devils completed the signing of Jadon Sancho on Friday in a deal worth £73m, according to BBC Sport.

Mundo Deportivo have reported that United dream of Sancho’s former teammate Erling Haaland and could include Anthony Martial as part of a deal in their pursuit of the Norwegian striker.

United are interested in Raphael Varane as well this summer, with journalist Fabrizio Romano saying an official bid will be submitted from United to Real Madrid in the coming days. With this in mind, it remains to be seen if the Red Devils will go all out and add another attacker to their ranks in this transfer window.

Chelsea are also interested in Haaland according to 90min, but if no club can prise him away from Signal Iduna Park this summer, then there will be a fight for him next as he will be available for closer to £65m then.

Palmer believes United have got a squad to challenge for the Premier League title but could do with another striker, telling Football FanCast: “They’re going to be there or thereabouts. I think they could do with another striker, but they still believe in Martial who started to show glimpses last season of what he’s about. You know, like I said, they’ve got a very exciting squad.”

United have an abundance of attacking talent and striker Edinson Cavani recently extended his stay in Manchester for a further year, signing a new contract at Old Trafford until 2022. The Uruguayan scored 15 goals for the Red Devils last season, helping United to a second place Premier League finish and a Europa League final.

Fulham dealt Antonee Robinson transfer blow

Fulham have been dealt a blow in their bid to keep Antonee Robinson at Craven Cottage this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by French publication RMC Sport, who claim that Ligue 1 side FC Girondins Bordeaux have opened negotiations with Fulham over a season-long loan deal for the left-back, with an option to buy clause inserted into the 23-year-old’s potential switch.

However, the report goes on to state that the talks are currently being held up by the USA international’s wage demands, with the defender reported to be earning around £23k-per-week with the Championship side.

Bordeaux are not the only club thought to be interested in a deal for the Fulham starlet this summer, with Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers also reported to be keeping a close eye on the situation of left-back, for whom Tony Khan is believed to be demanding £10m to part with.

Silva must avoid Robinson howler

Considering just how much potential Robinson possesses, should Marco Silva’s side go on to lose the services of the defender, especially so close to the start of the new Championship season, it would undoubtedly be a major blow for the Portuguese manager.

Indeed, over his 28 Premier League appearances for the Cottagers last term, the £6.3m-rated man helped his side keep four clean sheets, as well as making an average of 1.3 interceptions, 1.6 tackles, 1.9 clearances and winning five duels per game.

The 23-year-old also impressed in an attacking capacity, creating four big chances for his teammates and making an average of 1.1 key passes per match.

These metrics saw the man Scott Parker dubbed a “quality” player earn an average SofaScore match rating of 6.89, ranking him as the club’s 12th-best performer in the top flight of English football.

As such, with Silva undoubtedly hoping to mastermind an immediate return to the Premier League with Fulham next season, sanctioning the sale of one of the club’s most promising talents would very much appear to be a big mistake by the 44-year-old, as well as being a decision that would most likely leave fans of the club livid.
