Vlahovic remains ‘dream’ signing for Spurs

According to a report by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness, Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic remains a ‘dream’ signing for Tottenham Hotspur this summer but Fabio Paratici may have a battle on his hands.

The Lowdown: Spurs eyeing Vlahovic…

Tottenham are eyeing a move for Vlahovic this summer and have been heavily linked since Paratici’s appointment as managing director in north London.

The Times claimed that Spurs have already held talks over signing the Serbian, while Calciomercato reported that Spurs have already put a proposal on the table.

The Latest: Vlahovic a ‘dream’ signing for Spurs…

Corriere dello Sport claimed (via Sport Witness) that Vlahovic remains a ‘dream’ signing for Tottenham and ‘many top clubs’.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-updates-3/” title=”Spurs latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The big issue appears to be the player’s stance on leaving La Viola this summer, with the 21-year-old apparently not keen on a move away. His current deal expires in 2023 and the forward is waiting for his representatives to start talks over a possible extension.

Furthermore, Fiorentina are also not eager to sell, potentially leaving Paratici with a major battle to secure his signature.

The Verdict: Big blow…

This news comes as a blow for Spurs and their interest in landing Vlahovic this summer.

He would undoubtedly be an incredible acquisition if Paratici can somehow get it over the line, especially going by his mighty 21 goal-haul in Serie A over 2020/21 (WhoScored).

The 1.9m (6 foot 3) beast has also been called ‘crazy’ by former Bulgaria international and ex-Partizan Belgrade team-mate Valeri Bojinov (Planet Football).

It’s little wonder his club are keen to keep him, with Paratici now seemingly facing an uphill struggle to lure the Serbian to Tottenham.

Villa can sign a new Idrissa Gueye in Pape Sarr

Aston Villa could sign a new Idrissa Gueye in FC Metz midfielder Pape Sarr this summer as a transfer update emerges.

What’s the story?

Reports in recent weeks and months have suggested that Dean Smith’s side are interested in signing the 18-year-old this summer, with it then being revealed that his current club seem willing to let him go for the right price.

Metz’s president, Bernard Cerin, said: “All the clubs now want to buy him for cheaper. We are in the opposite situation. We want to keep him a little longer. The wish is to keep everyone – but we do not control everything. A very high offer makes it difficult for you to convince a player to stay.”

And now, The Athletic have name-checked Villa as a team that have “looked at” Sarr as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

Villa’s new Idrissa Gueye

Villa fans will, of course, know all about Gueye and the tenacious midfield work that he got through in his time at Villa Park, before making the move to fellow Premier League side Everton and now PSG.

In Sarr, Smith could find an exciting, younger version of the Senegal international.

The 18-year-old enjoyed a real breakthrough season with the Ligue 1 side, playing 22 times in the league, and establishing himself as one of the first names on the team sheet for Metz boss Frederic Antonetti.

And, Antonetti has not shied away from lavishing his midfield starlet with praise, saying: “Pape Matar Sarr is elegance in the midfield, it’s talent, it’s making others play.”

He added: “He will be able to go as far as he wants to go. He must work, be as he is there, modest, regular, hardworking. He must continue to love football and he will do like the great players, he will go far. I think he will go very far.”

Dubbed as someone who’s “got everything” to his game, Sarr averaged an impressive two tackles and 1.2 interceptions per game, while also boasting a passing accuracy of 85.3% – compare that to Gueye who managed 2.3 tackles and 0.7 interceptions per match in Ligue 1 this season with PSG, and having a 92.6% pass accuracy.

The £25m-rated machine could arrive at Villa Park as the new man to take over the throne of Gueye.

Meanwhile, Villa are set for an exciting boost…

Everton update on Nkounkou

Lots of Everton fans have been left to gush over an update involving Niels Nkounkou.

Writing in his latest piece for The Athletic, Patrick Boyland has shared that the left-back is set to called up to the France Olympics squad after some of the players in their original selection have suffered injuries.

The French are set to play Japan, South Africa and Mexico in Group A of the tournament, and Nkounkou could well play a part.

It will be a great experience for the 20-year-old, who is currently behind Lucas Digne in the pecking order at Goodison Park, and if he impresses Rafa Benitez, then the Spaniard may be inclined to give him some runouts in the first team ahead in the new 2021/22 season.

Nonetheless, Nkounkou will be hoping that he can play a part in trying to win the Gold Medal for his country in Tokyo.

Sky Sports drop Gil to Spurs claim on live TV

Sharing some big news on live TV (via Football Daily), Sky Sports have dropped a transfer development involving Tottenham Hotspur and exciting Sevilla youngster Bryan Gil.

The Lowdown: Paratici on the move…

It has been quite an eventful last few days for Tottenham in the transfer market as new managing director of football Fabio Paratici is starting to show exactly why he was appointed by Daniel Levy.

The Italian transfer guru is working on deals to sign both Pierluigi Gollini and Cristian Romero according to reliable Spurs reporter Alasdair Gold, and it appears he hasn’t stopped there.

As per Sky, sharing the latest on live TV, Tottenham and Paratici have another major transfer in the works.

The Latest: Sky Sports drop big live TV development…

The broadcaster has now dropped news that Tottenham are close to finalising a swap deal for Los Nervionenses starlet Gil this summer, which will see winger Erik Lamela head the other way.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-updates/” title=”Tottenham latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Sevilla, as well as receiving the Argentine, also stand to gain £21.6 million from the transfer as Tottenham look to add Gil to Nuno Espirito Santo’s ranks.

“Just some breaking news regarding Tottenham,” Sky explained.

“They are close to finalizing a swap deal with Sevilla that will see them sign the young winger Bryan Gil and Erik Lamela move to Spain.

“Our colleagues at Sky Italy are reporting that Spurs will also pay £21.6m for the 20-year-old.

“Gil is a promising Spain international, he’s had three caps, and Lamela is set to join Sevilla on a three-year contract – bringing an end to his eight-year stay at Spurs.”

The Verdict: Exciting move…

The dazzling attacker has drawn comparisons with Brazilian superstar Neymar (football.london), so it’s safe to say this is quite an exciting development coming out of Spurs.

Gil spent last season shining on loan at La Liga side Eibar, where he started 26 matches whilst scoring four goals and assisting three others (WhoScored).

He also stood out as Eibar’s most creative attacking outlet, making the most key passes per 90 (1.8) whilst averaging more completed dribbles (2.4) than anyone in their squad (WhoScored).

Indeed, it looks like Paratici is about to sign quite the gem for Tottenham.

Celtic: Odsonne Edouard update emerges

Brighton are not interested in signing Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard, despite reports suggesting they have tabled an offer for the Frenchman, The Argus report.

The Lowdown: Reported Brighton bid

Journalist Rudy Galetti posted on Twitter on Friday morning, claiming Brighton have made an offer in the region of €25m (£21.4m) for the 23-year-old.

Talks were thought to be ongoing between the two clubs, with Galetti, who described the situation as ‘evolving’, believing €25m could be enough to close a deal.

Edouard, who nearly joined Leicester City earlier this summer, still wants to leave Parkhead, but it seems as if links of a move to Brighton may not be accurate.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-10/” title=”Celtic updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Source shares update

According to The Argus, this is the fourth successive window where Brighton have been linked with Edouard.

However, a well-placed source informed them that ‘reports that keep emerging are completely false’ – an interesting seven-word update.

The Argus mentioned the links regarding an initial bid, presumably from Galetti, but it doesn’t seem as if there is anything in them.

The Verdict: Hoops still need to sell

With Edouard, on £19,500-a-week, still looking for a Celtic Park exit, the Hoops could do with cashing in this summer.

He has less than 12 months on his Hoops contract, and should Celtic fail to move him on this summer, they’ll be left with a forward who seemingly doesn’t want to be there who could then discuss a pre-contract agreement in January.

Unfortunately, the £21.4m bid from Brighton doesn’t appear to be true, but if Celtic could get a fee close to Edouard’s £15.3m Transfermarkt valuation, it could still turn out to be good business.

Leeds youngster Leif Davis agrees loan move

Leeds United youngster Leif Davis has reportedly passed his medical at Bournemouth and will join the Championship side on loan for the 2021/22 season.

The Lowdown: Lack of playing time

The 21-year-old was limited to just two Premier League appearances last season, both of which came from the substitutes’ bench, with first team chances few and far between.

With Junior Firpo replacing Ezgjan Alioski as Leeds’ first-choice left-back, Davis’s first team opportunities could continue to be limited in 2021/22.

The Latest: Loan deal almost done

Having been linked with a loan move to Bournemouth, Football Insider are now claiming that Davis has passed a medical at the Championship club.

The deal is expected to be completed on Tuesday at some point, with the youngster spending the 2021/22 campaign on the south coast.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-10/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Good move for youngster

This is an ideal move for Davis, who needs to continue his development by earning regular starts at senior level.

The Championship is a tough league which tests young players, but it could earn him great experience, with the defender hopefully returning a more well-rounded footballer.

Hopefully Davis will eventually be a regular part of Leeds’ squad, and this upcoming spell away from Elland Road could prove to be invaluable if he gets regular senior game-time out of it.

In other news, a pundit is unconvinced by Leeds potentially signing one player this summer. Find out who it is here.

Liverpool linked with Isco

Liverpool could form a dream duo at Anfield next season after being linked with a move for Real Madrid midfielder Isco.

What’s the story?

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes [via Anfield Edition], the Reds are interested in signing the 29-year-old creative talent this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his first team options.

Calciomercato have now provided an update on Isco’s situation, claiming that Real Madrid have placed a £20m price tag on the Spain international, with new manager Carlo Ancelotti happy to let him depart.

Imagine him and Thiago

Isco has played a pivotal part in Los Blancos’ success over the last few years, scoring 51 goals and providing 56 assists in 366 appearances for the club. His impressive exploits helped Real Madrid claim four Champions League crowns, two La Liga titles and one Copa del Rey during his time at the Bernabeu, but he has largely failed to fulfill his early promise.

Much was expected of the technically gifted forward in the early years of his career after shining on the biggest stage, even drawing Zinedine Zidane comparisons, but he has faded into the background at the Bernabeu over the last couple of years.

After starting just 23 league fixtures since the start of 2019/20, Isco appears to be surplus to requirements in Madrid, and with just one year remaining on his current contract, he is available at a bargain price.

With Liverpool thought to be working on a restricted budget this summer due to the financial impact of the global pandemic, the Spaniard’s £20m asking price could make him an attractive prospect for the Reds.

Famed for his outstanding dribbling ability and eye for a pass, Isco could form a formidable partnership with Spain compatriot Thiago in the Liverpool engine room should he make the switch to Merseyside over the coming months.

The pair have the ability to split open the tightest of defences with a killer pass at any moment, and their combination play could be too much for Premier League backlines to handle. Thiago has averaged 1.3 key passes per game over the course of his career, with Isco eclipsing him with a 1.4 average for this metric.

Klopp arguably never replaced Philippe Coutinho following his big-money move to Barcelona back in 2018, but Isco could be the club’s natural number 10 that they’ve lacked ever since, finding space between the lines before being picked out by Thiago and then feeding one of the front three himself.

It’s surely an exciting prospect for any Liverpool fan and one which director of football Michael Edwards must try to facilitate.

Moyes receives major West Ham boost

Declan Rice has returned to training this week and an encouraging update has emerged on his West Ham future…

What’s the word?

The 22-year-old England international has reportedly turned down two contract offers from the Irons’ hierarchy in recent months and according to the Telegraph, he is expected to reject further attempts as he waits to see if interest from Manchester United or Chelsea leads to anything more serious in terms of a transfer.

However, with the midfielder finally back at Rush Green after a post-Euro 2020 break, it seems that he is very committed to his boyhood club, as revealed by journalist Matt Law.

“Update on Declan Rice who has returned to pre-season training at West Ham. Current situation, despite turning down two contract offers, is it looks like he will start the season in East London – and he will keep giving his all,” he tweeted.

It’s thought that, despite interest from the two aforementioned Premier League giants, Rice is preparing for the new season as the Hammers’ vice-captain.

Moyes’ major boost

Even though the Irons’ £100m valuation of Rice has put off many interested parties, it appears that Rice isn’t forcing an exit at the London Stadium and that’ll come as a massive boost to David Moyes and the fanbase.

Rice is a captain-in-waiting, with West Ham legend Mark Noble due to retire at the end of the season, and that emphasises just how crucial a presence he is in this squad.

WhoScored ranked the £63m-rated powerhouse as Moyes’ fourth-best player in 2020/21 as they secured a spot in the Europa League. Rice topped the charts for interceptions per game (1.8), proving to be a very hard man to bypass in the engine room, whilst he wasn’t far behind for tackles per game (1.8) either.

His rising influence is further seen by the fact that he averaged more passes per game (47.7) than any other Hammers player, meaning most of their play runs through him at some point and it’s even more impressive that he did so with a team-high 88% accuracy.

At one stage last season, the Hammers’ European dreams looked to be over as they struggled in the absence of Rice.

With the 22-year-old on the treatment table, the East Londoners lost three of four matches before he returned to see out the final three games unbeaten. Again, that merely shows his importance to Moyes as a key cog to their recent success.

Therefore, this latest update from Law is going to hand the 58-year-old one huge boost heading into the new season, which begins in less than two weeks.

For now, it seems like Rice is a West Ham player for the foreseeable future, and that gives them every chance of repeating last season’s success.

Crystal Palace: Fans react to Scott Dann departure

Crystal Palace announced the departure of defender Scott Dann on Thursday morning.

And, as to be expected, a number of Palace fans were quick to share their thoughts on the exit news on social media.

Dann, who made the move to Selhurst Park back in 2014, was one of 11 senior Palace players who were out of contract at the beginning of July.

The likes of Joel Ward and Nathaniel Clyne have both earned new deals under Patrick Vieira, however, Dann is the latest player to have his exit confirmed.

The 34-year-old made a total of 181 appearances for the Eagles, 15 of which came under Roy Hodgson last season.

Palace have brought in two centre-backs in Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen this summer, with Dann unable to earn himself a new deal under those conditions.

The club posted the news regarding the fan favourite on their official Twitter page. These Palace supporters were all upset, with one ‘gutted’ at the centre-back’s departure.

LFC fans hail Alisson save against Norwich

Some Liverpool supporters have been heaping praise on Alisson after the goalkeeper made a stunning save against Norwich City on Saturday.

The Reds made a great start to the 2021/22 Premier League season, picking up a 3-0 victory at Carrow Road.

It was a performance which suggested that Jurgen Klopp’s side will again be title contenders, especially as they won so convincingly without the likes of Andy Robertson, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Thiago in the team.

[freshpress-quiz id=“359326”]

Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah scored the goals for Liverpool on the day, but one other moment stood out at the other end of the pitch.

Alisson made a miraculous save late on, quickly following it up with two more in the process, as he ensured that he left Carrow Road with a clean sheet.
