Southampton fans on Twitter are split following the news that Everton are closing in on a deal to sign Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph that was initially reported as being in the region of £8m, but has since been confirmed to be £8.5m initially, which could rise to £10m with add-ons.

BBC Sport report that Toffees manager Marco Silva and director of football Marcel Brands believe that the 29-year-old will add some experience and leadership in a central midfield area for a bargain price.

Meanwhile, Saints have been relatively busy in the transfer window themselves, bringing in Che Adams and Moussa Djenepo, as well as confirming the permanent signing of Danny Ings following his season-long loan spell at St Mary’s.

There have been no new additions away from the attack yet, but with Mario Lemina looking likely to leave those circumstances could easily change with little competition for Oriol Romeu in the defensive midfield position.

Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said in an interview with SportBild earlier in the summer that he was only looking to sign players aged 24 and under for the south coast outfit, but that appears to have fallen on deaf ears with some supporters on the popular social media platform.

Atletico Madrid are stepping up their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier, per The Sun.

What’s the word?

The Spanish club are reportedly keen to bring in a new right-back this summer.

And The Sun report that Trippier, who endured a difficult season at Spurs, has emerged as a possible acquisition, along with PSG’s Thomas Meunier.

Indeed, Atleti are said to be seeking a long-term replacement for 34-year-old Juanfran.

Juventus are also credited with an interest in Trippier by the aforementioned report, with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino set to sanction the departure of the former Manchester City defender this summer.

£25m is the figure mooted in the article, although it’s not clear whether that’s Atletico’s or Tottenham’s valuation of the player.

A great fee

Doing business at £25m is a no-brainer for Spurs.

Trippier enjoyed a fantastic World Cup as England reached the semi-finals, even scoring a majestic free-kick in the last-four clash with Croatia.

But he endured a season that was characterised by sloppy errors, namely a terrible own goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Trippier can quite clearly be upgraded if Spurs wish and a transfer fee of £25m would allow the club to reinvest properly.

Spurs should snap Atleti’s hand off.

وقال كلوب: “لسوء الحظ اكتشفنا الآن أن ماتيب سيغيب عن ليفربول لبقية الموسم، لكنه سيكون جاهزًا في بداية الموسم التحضيري للموسم الجديد، وفي النهاية سيتم ترتيب كل شيء”.

وأضاف: “بدأ الموسم وتعرض ماتيب للإصابة للأسف، يجب ألا ننسى إنه لعب إلى حد كبير طوال الوقت مع شالكه قبل انتقاله إلينا، لم يكن لديه شيء، ثم لم يحالفه الحظ وتعرض لإصابة قوية أمام نابولي بسبب تحدي مع كوليبالي قبل عامين”.

وأردف: “لم يكن ماتيب محظوظًا لأنه قدم تحديًا رائعًا أمام توتنهام، لقد أنقذنا في تلك اللحظة عندما فاز بالتحدي ضد سون هيونج، لكنه أصيب في كاحله واستكمل المباراة وهو الآن خارج الموسم، لذا يمكنك أن تتخيل كم حاول البقاء في الملعب لمساعدتنا”.

واختتم: “سننتظره، لديه الآن ما تبقى من هذا الموسم ثم الصيف، ثم الموسم التحضيري للاستعداد مرة أخرى، وسيكون جاهزًا مجددًا”.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, former Liverpool star Jason McAteer has drawn comparisons between teenage ace Rhian Brewster and Reds legends Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler.

What did he say?

After recovering from a lengthy lay-off from injury, Brewster has hit the ground running in pre-season and fired in three goals in Liverpool’s opening two games.

Having seen the 19-year-old’s displays, McAteer believes the upcoming campaign could be a real breakthrough season for the striker and admitted that his style of play is reminiscent of two former Anfield heroes.

He said: “His progression is coming along nicely, it’s a great learning curve for him. He’s had that injury but he now looks like he’s fully fit and come back from it.

“You can see bits of Rushy [Ian Rush] in him, the way he runs, the way he closes people down. Also, bits of Robbie Fowler in his finishing. If he turns out half as good as those two, I’m sure we’ve got a real player on our hands!”

A huge benchmark

Talk about trying to cool expectations. McAteer’s glowing praise of Brewster is certainly indicative of the kind of high regard Liverpool hold the young forward in, and it is no surprise to see.

Having won the Golden Boot at the FIFA U17 World Cup, Brewster was included in Liverpool’s Champions League final squad and it appears Klopp has big plans for the 19-year-old.

Speaking earlier this month, the German said: “Rhian is a really big talent. We’re really looking forward to seeing him in training. It will be an important role for us, we’ve planned an important role for him.”

Following Daniel Sturridge’s departure, there is certainly room for Brewster to potentially make his mark next season and he could well overtake Divock Origi in the pecking order if he continues to impress during pre-season. Whilst McAteer’s comparisons are certainly lofty, the hype surrounding the striker is very much real.

Speaking to Football Insider, Noel Whelan has compared Leeds’ pursuit of Ryan Kent to the signing of Patrick Bamford last summer.

What’s he said?

Leeds’ transfer activity has been rather dead in the water over the last few weeks following Victor Orta’s comments that they were 90% done in terms of the plan they had in place.

Andrea Petagna has been linked with the club this week whilst talk of Ryan Kent just won’t go away.

Leeds Live claim that the Liverpool man is still the outstanding option they’d go for, suggesting there is room for the right player on the right terms.

However, Whelan has suggested that he can see the Whites signing the 22-year-old, hinting that they could be in line for a similar scenario to one of their current players. He told Football Insider:

“Ryan Kent is available now for £10m, not for loan, and I can see Bielsa signing him, he’s one he would want.

“We saw last summer with the Patrick Bamford signing how Leeds are willing to bide their time, get rid of the players they don’t want and spend big money for the one they do.

“We could have a Bamford-style scenario with Kent.”

Question of funding

Leeds left things relatively late to secure the signature of Bamford last term.

The Yorkshire club were in talks with Middlesbrough at a similar time of the year in 2018 before eventually landing him at the back end of July.

He arrived in a deal that could rise to £10m, a similar fee being touted for Kent by Whelan.

Leeds have yet to go big in the window but if they did indeed land the Liverpool winger, it would show they are willing to be patient in their approach.

Questions may have to be raised over whether it’s the right one considering the new season kicks off this weekend but there could also be issues in terms of the money the club can ship out for a player.

Earlier in the window hints were made that they sold Pontus Jansson for financial fair play reasons which demonstrates they don’t have a great deal to work with.

Comparisons with Bamford are near spot-on, but an expensive move for Kent may well be out of Leeds’ hands as the window draws to a close.

Loads of Leeds United fans on Twitter have predicted that 17-year-old midfielder Mateusz Bogusz will be the winner of the club’s 2019/20 Young Player of the Year award.

The teenager has been heavily involved during pre-season despite never having made a first-team appearance for the Yorkshire outfit, and he has impressed including scoring a brilliant goal in the victory against the Western Sydney Wanderers in Australia.

There are plenty of other candidates in the running given the Whites have the likes of Jamie Shackleton, Jack Clarke, Leif Davis and new boy Ben White in their ranks, and despite the fact that you might well expect those players to get more minutes than Bogusz for the Championship club this term, that hasn’t dissuaded some supporters who were asked their thoughts by a fellow fan on social media.

Plenty have selected the young Polish talent as the man that can make his breakthrough and impress Marcelo Bielsa, and he certainly put himself in his manager’s thoughts with his goalscoring display Down Under which drew a 7/10 rating from the Yorkshire Evening Post.

While one individual said he “hopefully gets about 20 games this season”, another backed up his choice by saying  “he looks outstanding”.
