OPORTUNIDADES….

No entanto, a arbitragem marcou impedimento e anulou o tento.

Liverpool could now sign "incredible" Robertson replacement on the cheap

Liverpool could now complete the signing of an “incredible” Andy Robertson replacement for a cut-price amount, according to a fresh transfer update.

Robertson struggling for form at Liverpool

The Reds secured a priceless 2-1 victory at home to Brighton on Saturday, with defeats for Manchester City and Arsenal ensuring that they end the weekend top of the Premier League. Despite a poor performance for an hour or so, Cody Gakpo equalised and Mohamed Salah’s stunning strike sealed a dramatic three points.

While much of Arne Slot’s starting lineup for Liverpool picked itself at Anfield, one notable omission was Robertson, who started in the EFL Cup win at Brighton in midweek, but saw Kostas Tsimikas preferred to him for the bigger game in the league.

The 30-year-old certainly hasn’t been at his best this season, being skinned by Bukayo Saka in the 2-2 draw away to Arsenal last weekend, so it was hard for him to have too many complaints about Slot’s decision to leave him out.

Given his age, and the fact that Robertson has seven years of intense football in his legs from the Jurgen Klopp era, there is an argument to say that he has now peaked as a player. Replacements are needed when looking at the long-term picture and it looks as though Liverpool may have their number one option lined up.

Liverpool could sign Wolves' Ait-Nouri on the cheap

According to Football Insider, Liverpool could sign Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri in a “cut-price” deal, having shown plenty of interest in him in the past.

He has been a target for the Reds “for a while” and Wolves wouldn’t be able to keep hold of him if they are relegated to the Championship, “which is why they might accept a smaller fee for his services”. The report adds that Liverpool see Ait-Nouri as a possible Robertson replacement.

Ait-Nouri

Ait-Nouri jumps out as a shrewd option for Liverpool, as at 23, he is still a young player, so he could join the Reds at the same age Robertson was when he arrived in the summer of 2017.

The Algerian possesses both defensive expertise and attacking quality, not only keeping Mohamed Salah quiet in a game back in 2021/22, but also equalising against the Reds earlier this season. Wanderers manager Gary O’Neil has lauded him in the past, saying:

“I’m enjoying working with Rayan, I think he’s an incredible talent, a great guy and he brings a real enthusiasm and life to the place. We can use him anywhere so, unfortunately, at the moment we have to because we don’t have many others. But he is talented enough when we roll him in and play him in midfield a few times and we played him as a right 10 in the second half today, and he’s come on loads – his work rate and everything about him.”

Saved by Salah: Slot must boldly drop 5/10 Liverpool star who lost 6 duels

Liverpool must drop 5/10 star who lost 6 duels vs Brighton and was saved by Salah’s wonder-goal.

ByAngus Sinclair Nov 3, 2024

Robertson may still have plenty to offer Liverpool but a younger alternative with more legs could be needed next summer, and Ait-Nouri may fit the bill perfectly.

Crowd cap scrapped for Boxing Day with 100,000 fans possible

Perth Test still on the cards with plans being still worked through between CA and the Western Australian government

There could be 100,000 people at the MCG on Boxing Day after the Victorian government announced all Covid crowd restrictions would be lifted on Thursday following the state reaching its vaccination targets.Victoria’s vaccination rates for people over the age of 12 are about to reach the 90% mark. The state government had previously stated that crowds of upto 80,000 would be allowed at the MCG for the third Ashes Test on Boxing Day.But with the vaccination rates reaching 90%, Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews declared that there would be no limits on the number of people who could go to the MCG on Boxing Day.”There are no more caps, there are no more quotients, no more rules in terms of how many people can be in different spaces,” Andrews said in Melbourne on Thursday.”Whether it’s 100,000 at the MCG on Boxing Day or a smaller group standing up at the public bar of their local pub having a beer, this is the COVID normal that every Victorian has built.”People will need to be fully vaccinated in order to gain entry into the MCG for the Test match. But Western Australia’s border remains closed to NSW and Victoria and to internationals due to WA’s slower vaccination rates and the Perth Test remains a work in progress. The WA government has declared its intention to host the Perth Test but conversations are still ongoing between WA Health, WA Police and Cricket Australia.CA chief executive Nick Hockley told 3AW on Wednesday that he was confident the fifth Ashes Test was still on track to be played in Perth.”There’s still a fair amount of detail to be worked through,” Hockley said. “We’re doing that as the moment as a priority.”The arrangements that will be put in place, they are very complicated, there’s a huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes.”We’re not quite there yet in finalising all the plans but certainly making a huge amount of progress. Certainly, we’re working towards it happening.”

Women's World Cup qualifier in Zimbabwe called off following concerns over new Covid-19 variant

The tournament cannot be rescheduled, as the ODI World Cup is scheduled for March-April 2022

Firdose Moonda and Madushka Balasuriya27-Nov-2021

Bangladesh are on top of Group B table with wins over Pakistan and USA•ICC

The women’s ODI World Cup qualifying event in Zimbabwe has been called off after travel restrictions were imposed on large parts of southern Africa following the detection of a new Covid-19 variant, called Omicron, in the region. With the marquee event scheduled to take place next year in March and April, the qualifier cannot be held at a later date, and the three remaining spots will be decided according to the ICC rankings.Hosts New Zealand, Australia, England, South Africa and India have already qualified for the tournament. They will now be joined by Bangladesh, West Indies and Pakistan. The news will be a disappointment to Thailand, who do not have a ranking at the moment, but beat Zimbabwe and Bangladesh in the tournament. Bangladesh were on top of Group B with wins over Pakistan and USA, while West Indies topped Group A after beating Ireland.ESPNcricinfo has learned that the cutoff date for the women’s ODI rankings taken into consideration for deciding on the final three teams for 2022 ODI World Cup was September 30. Between the start of the pandemic and August 31, 2021, Pakistan played eight ODIs, winning two, West Indies played 10, winning three and having one tied, while Ireland, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh played none. Bangladesh, however, are understood to have been well ahead of Ireland and Sri Lanka on the rankings for more than a year. So while the lack of game time before the cutoff date didn’t hurt Bangladesh, it may have played a part in Ireland and Sri Lanka missing out on the 2022 World Cup berth, either or both of whom may have had a chance to pip one or both of Pakistan and West Indies to the World Cup spot.Concerns over the future of the qualifier were raised on Saturday morning when the match between Sri Lanka and West Indies was called off without a ball bowled. ESPNcricinfo understands that the fixture could not be played because a member of the Sri Lankan support staff had tested positive for Covid-19.Related

“We are incredibly disappointed to have to cancel the remainder of this event but with travel restrictions from a number of African countries being imposed at such short notice, there was a serious risk that teams would be unable to return home,” Chris Tetley, the ICC head of events, said.”We have explored a number of options to allow us to complete the event but it isn’t feasible and we will fly the teams out of Zimbabwe as soon as possible. Bangladesh, Pakistan and the West Indies will now qualify for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 by virtue of their rankings, whilst Sri Lanka and Ireland will also join them in the next cycle of the ICC Women’s Championship.”There had already been a few positive Covid-19 tests in the Sri Lanka camp after reaching Zimbabwe, the last of which was detected prior to their match against Netherlands on Tuesday. That match did go ahead with Sri Lanka winning a rain-affected fixture by 34 runs.On the whole, Zimbabwe’s caseload remains relatively low at under 135,000, with fewer than 5000 deaths. However, with travel in and out of the country becoming increasingly difficult, the qualifier had to be scrapped for logistical reasons. Emirates Airline, which flew the teams into Harare, is understood to be suspending the route in the coming days. The variant was first discovered in Botswana and has infected several hundred people in neighbouring South Africa, which is on the brink of a fourth wave of infection. The UK, USA, much of Europe, Australia, Sri Lanka and Thailand have all suspended travel to and from countries in southern Africa, putting several international events in doubt. The women’s World Cup qualifiers got underway on Sunday, November 21, amid low case numbers in southern Africa, but Papua New Guinea had been “forced to withdraw” from the tournament at the start of the month due to a slew of infections in the camp. News of a new variant was first made public on Tuesday, November 23, and cases in the Gauteng province of South Africa have increased several fold since. Although South Africa is reporting around 2000 new cases a day, there are concerns this will rise exponentially and stricter restrictions are due to be introduced soon. South Africa is currently on Level 1 of 5 of its restrictions, the most lenient since the pandemic began. The Netherlands men’s team is currently in South Africa playing a World Cup Super League ODI series and have two matches left to play. A decision on whether those are going to go ahead will be taken today.India A are also in South Africa, playing first-class matches in Bloemfontein. So far, that series is known to be on schedule, since the region is regarded as safe. India’s senior side is due to travel to South Africa for three Tests, three ODIs and four ODIs on December 8. India has not imposed any restrictions on southern African travellers yet, but has installed stricter testing measures for people from the region.

More touches than Kuhn: Celtic star was the unsung hero vs Leipzig

Celtic produced another magical European performance under the lights at Parkhead with a 3-1 win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Hoops did not get off to the best of starts, however, as Christoph Baumgartner opened the scoring in the first half before a brilliant goal from Nicolas Kuhn made it 1-1.

Celtic’s German forward then put the hosts in front just before half-time with a simple finish from close range, before Reo Hatate added a third in the second half.

Kuhn was, clearly, the standout performer for the Scottish giants with his terrific, match-winning, display for Brendan Rodgers’ side on the right flank.

Nicolas Kuhn's performance in numbers

The 24-year-old star produced a moment of magic to draw the Hoops level in the match as he cut inside to find the far corner with a curling effort from distance.

He was then in the right place at the right time to find the back of the net for a second time, placing himself perfectly in the box to convert from Greg Taylor’s ball across.

The former Bayern Munich youngster, who had 50 touches of the ball in total, also created two chances for his teammates and completed three of his five attempted dribbles, but was not rewarded with an assist for his creative efforts.

It was a player-of-the-match-worthy display from the German sensation but he was not the only top performer on the night for the Scottish giants, as central midfielder Arne Engels was another player who caught the eye with his display in the middle of the park.

Arne Engels' performance in numbers

The Belgian whiz was the unsung hero of the night for the Hoops as he put in the hard work in and out of possession to help Celtic to win the match and claim all three points.

Engels did not get off to the best of starts to the game, though, as he lost his man for the opening goal, but the way he bounced back from that setback made the rest of his display all the more impressive.

The former Bundesliga starlet played an important role in the equaliser from Kuhn. Neil Lennon, on TNT’s coverage of the game, described his involvement in the goal as “lovely”, as the midfielder brilliantly flicked the ball around the corner to send the winger away.

As you can see in the table above, Engels won 75% of his duels in the game and was not dribbled past a single time, which shows that he was strong out of possession in open play.

He also created a whopping five chances, the most of any player on the pitch, and completed 89% of his attempted passes, and had 51 touches of the ball – one more than Kuhn had.

Worth more than Kuhn: Celtic lost a real star whose value's soared 1,300%

The former Celtic forward has thrived since moving down south to the Premier League.

These statistics show that Engels was influential in possession and crucial to the way Celtic dominated the match on the ball, which is why – despite his early error – he was the unsung hero of the night for Rodgers.

Shakib: 'Playing in all three formats is close to impossible'

Bangladesh allrounder says he is rethinking his Test future, and wants to skip ODIs that aren’t part of the Super League

ESPNcricinfo staff23-Dec-2021

Shakib Al Hasan feels staying in bio-bubbles is like “life in a jail”•AFP/Getty Images

Shakib Al Hasan has cast doubts over his future in Test cricket, as he feels it is “close to impossible” to play all three formats, especially during the pandemic. Shakib also said that he wants to pick and choose ODIs, and avoid playing those matches that are not part of the Super League.Shakib has already skipped Bangladesh’s upcoming Test series against New Zealand that begins on January 1. He cited family reasons, and although it created a bit of controversy, ultimately the BCB granted him the leave. Shakib has been skipping many series since the 2017 South Africa tour, although he was also served a one-year suspension from October 2019 to October 2020 by the ICC.”I know which format to give importance or preference,” Shakib told the Dhaka-based TV channel . “The time has come for me to think about Test cricket. This is the fact: whether I will play Tests or not. And even if I do, how I will play the format. I also need to consider if I need to participate in ODIs where no points are at stake. I don’t have any other option.”I am not saying I will retire from Tests. It might even happen that I stop playing T20Is after the 2022 T20 World Cup. I can play Tests and ODIs. But playing three formats is almost close to impossible. Playing two Tests in 40-42 days is not fruitful. It encourages one to play selectively. I will definitely plan well with BCB, and then go forward. It will be the smart thing to do. If it happens in January, I will know what I am doing for the rest of the year.”Bangladesh are currently vying for an automatic entry into the 2023 ODI World Cup through the Super League. They will play the Super 12s in the 2022 T20 World Cup, while also taking part in the World Test Championship. In the Test tournament, Shakib has played very little cricket.Tamim Iqbal, too, has skipped plenty of T20Is this year including the T20 World Cup, although he hasn’t declared his retirement from the format. The 34-year-old Shakib suggested that the pandemic, and the bio-bubble environment that has come with it, has played a part in this thinking process. He said that spending so much time away from his family isn’t healthy.”It was like life in a jail. It is not like the players roam around a lot during a series. But when you will know it mentally that you can’t go out even if you want to, that’s where the problem lies. New Zealand didn’t even send their U-19 team to the World Cup, thinking about mental health. Coronavirus isn’t going away easily. We have to find out a new way to survive this. I don’t think bio-bubble and quarantine is the best way.”When you can’t meet your three little kids regularly, it becomes an unhealthy situation. It affects their growing up.”

Sullivan makes West Ham decision on hiring "world-class" Lopetegui successor

West Ham United majority shareholder David Sullivan has already made a decision on hiring one potential Julen Lopetegui replacement, as murmurs continue to surround the Spaniard’s immediate future in east London.

Lopetegui fails to beat Everton as West Ham pressure grows

The Hammers’ 0-0 draw against Everton last weekend was billed by some as a must-win game for Lopetegui (Jacob Steinberg), so their bore draw stalemate at home to Sean Dyche’s strugglers certainly wouldn’t have helped to ease the noise surrounding the 58-year-old’s possible dismissal.

West Ham convinced signing ex-Chelsea star could revitalise their attack

He’s been in fantastic form since joining another club.

ByEmilio Galantini Nov 13, 2024

Questions have been asked about Lopetegui’s approaches to games and consistent use of out-of-form players like Guido Rodriguez and Carlos Soler, with West Ham sitting 14th in the table and winning just three league games all season.

West Ham are believed to be sounding out managerial candidates to replace Lopetegui, even if no final decision has been made yet. Of the managers linked with moves to West Ham, ex-FC Porto boss Sergio Conceicao, former Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic, Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness, ex-Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand and former Benfica tactician Roger Schmidt.

West Ham failed to score for the second game in a row against Everton, and Arsenal legend Martin Keown is convinced the Spaniard has lost his dressing room.

“It’s like Lopetegui has lost the players a little bit, he is shouting from the sidelines but some of his players are walking around,” Keown said (via The Mirror). “It looks a stroll in the park for Everton at the moment and that is a real worry for West Ham.”

West Ham make decision on hiring Graham Potter

According to GiveMeSport, an update has come to light on the prospect of West Ham hiring out-of-work former Brighton boss Graham Potter. Sullivan has already made a decision on appointing Potter to replace Lopetegui, and as per GMS, it is a polite no to the Englishman – who hasn’t been in a job since being sacked by Chelsea in April 2023.

Graham Potter as Chelsea manager

There are concerns within the West Ham boardroom that the 49-year-old is a “risky” appointment, despite the fine job he did at Brighton, where he laid the foundations for Roberto De Zerbi and Fabian Hürzeler to impress in his wake.

Pep Guardiola once called Potter “the best” English manager, with Adam Lallana also branding the tactician “world-class” during their time together at the Amex.
