Celtic have enjoyed a sensational start to the 2024/25 campaign by winning all eight of their competitive matches in all competitions, conceding just four goals.

The Hoops have won all five of their games in the Scottish Premiership and are yet to concede a single goal, as Brendan Rodgers targets a second successive title since his return to the club last summer.

Because of the club’s success and the huge standards in the first-team squad, it is incredibly difficult for young players to make the breakthrough from the B team to the senior group.

One player who appeared to be on his way to bridging the gap was Ireland youth international Rocco Vata, before his exit from Parkhead in the summer transfer window.

Rocco Vata's potential

The 19-year-old starlet scored 23 goals in 34 appearances for Celtic B and was given opportunities in the first-team by Ange Postecoglou and Rodgers.

Vata scored his first goal for the senior side under the Northern Irish head coach last term, against Buckie Thistle, and ended his career at Parkhead with that being his only strike in six appearances.

The teenage whiz opted to turn down the chance to sign an extension at Paradise and signed for Championship side Watford, with compensation to be agreed between the two teams due to his age, and he came off the bench for the Hornets in their 2-1 League Cup defeat to Manchester City on Tuesday night.

Vata appeared to be a great prospect for Celtic, given his 23 goals for the B team and his smattering of first-team outings, but will now not have the chance to fulfil his potential at Parkhead.

Rodgers, however, may already have a bigger talent than the 19-year-old Irishman brewing in the academy in the form of centre-forward Daniel Cummings.

The 18-year-old star, who only turned 18 in April, has been in prolific form for the B team in the 2024/25 campaign, with a stunning 12 goals in eight appearances.

Cummings has scored ten goals in seven Lowland League games this term, and also fired in 12 goals in 19 Lowland League matches last season, which means that the forward has racked up 22 goals in his last 26 league appearances for the B team.

That works out as a goal every 1.18 Lowland League games on average, compared to Vata’s return of 23 goals in 34 matches for the same team – a goal every 1.48 matches on average.

The Scotland U17 international has scored two goals and provided one assist in six appearances in the UEFA Youth League, whereas Vata only managed one goal and zero assists in 12 outings in that competition for Celtic.

These statistics suggest that Cummings, who is a year younger than the Watford man, has the potential to be a greater goal threat as a centre-forward, as he outperformed his former teammate in the same competitions.

It is now down to the 18-year-old marksman to prove to Rodgers, if given the opportunity, that he has a future as a regular starter for Celtic, as he could be a star for the Hoops if his B team form can be translated to the first-team.

Mas não será a primeira vez que o atleta levará essa numeração às costas, não apenas na sua carreira, mas como até mesmo com a camisa corintiana.

Poucos se recordam, mas o primeiro número vestido por Paulinho no Timão foi o 15. Quando o atleta chegou ao clube do Parque São Jorge, em maio de 2010, a camisa 8 era usada por Jucilei – no início daquela temporada, o dono do número era o meia Tcheco, que em setembro do mesmo ano deixou o Corinthians para voltar ao Coritiba.

No ano seguinte, o Timão não utilizou númeração fixa nas primeira partidas da temporada, mas na inscrição para a fase preliminar da Libertadores, onde a equipe alvinegra foi eliminada precocemente para o Tolima, da Colômbia, Paulinho foi inscrito com o número 7.

Em fevereiro de 2011, menos de um mês após a desclassificação na competição continental, Jucilei foi negociado com oAnzhi, da Rússia, e a camisa 8 ficou livre para Paulinho imortalizar, principalmente após o gol da vitória por 1 a 0 sobre o Vasco, na partida de volta das quartas de final da Libertadores de 2012, no estádio do Pacaembu, um dos episódios mais importantes da primeira e única conquista continental corintiana.

No entanto, a camisa 8 atualmente é vestida por Renato Augusto, curiosamente o atleta que herdou o número após a saída de Paulinho para o Tottenham, em 2013. Renato também saiu do Timão e voltou na última temporada.

Em recente entrevista ao “Globo Esporte”, Renato disse que cederia a numeração para Paulinho, caso fosse necessário. No entanto, o recém-contratado optou por usar a 15, que estava vaga, justamente por relembrar o início dele pelo Timão e também na Seleção, quando usou a camisa 15 na Copa do Mundo de 2018, na Rússia.

Antes do anúncio, algumas possibilidades foram especuladas, como o meia vestir a camisa 88, semelhantemente ao que o Timão fez quando o atacante Jô retornou ao clube – o atleta costumava a vestir a 7, que era ocupada por Luan, então passou a vestir a 77 -, o 80, ou até mesmo que era levantado o questionamento sobre o número que Renato Augusto vestiria caso passasse a 8 para o Paulinho, podendo Renato retornar a usar o número 25, primeiro que o jogador utilizou pelo clube alvinegro.

Além de Corinthians e Seleção Brasileira, Paulinho utilizou a camisa 15 no Barcelona-ESP e Al-Ahli-SAU.

O retorno do meia foi anunciado na manhã desta quarta-feira, justamente dia 15 de dezembro, oito anos, cinco meses e 23 dias após a saída do jogador ao futebol inglês, que, na despedida, prometeu que retornaria ao Corinthians no futuro.

The forward isn’t the only one who could miss the Portsmouth game, either. As reported by Birmingham World, West Brom are sweating over the fitness of Jayson Molumby, who is facing a race against time to be fit for his side’s next game.

Having missed last week’s clash against Plymouth, the midfielder will be keen to make his return this weekend, but with his fitness still touch and go, Molumby may find himself sidelined for a second week running.

"Animal" Molumby is big miss

Having started West Brom’s opening five Championship games before being sidelined for Plymouth and now possibly the Portsmouth game, there’s no doubt that Corberan’s side will miss the influence of Molumby in the middle of the park.

As the Baggies gun for promotion, the Irishman should prove to be one of the key men, before eventually making an impact in the top flight if West Brom do achieve their aim this season. Molumby, of course, came through the ranks at Brighton & Hove Albion, before never really getting his chance in the top flight. With unfinished business in the Premier League, he will be desperate to take West Brom up.

Corberan is well aware of his quality too, having said via The Irish Sun back in 2023: “It’s important for every player to go on to the pitch when they’re in the first XI with the mentality to compete, this is what Molumby is doing. He is working as an animal and that’s what football demands of you.”

If Molumby does miss the Portsmouth game then the next time that West Brom fans may see him in action is against Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

وقال شوبير في تصريحات عبر برنامجه على إذاعة “أون سبورت إف إم”: “محمد الشناوي جدد للأهلي لمدة موسمين، وكل الأرقام المتداولة بشأن راتبه، سواء 50 أو 40 أو 30 مليون جنيه، غير صحيحة تمامًا، هذه المعلومة على مسؤوليتي الشخصية”.

Shikhar Dhawan has added a new gear to his T20 batting, as evidenced by his returns in the IPL, particularly since the middle of the 2019 season. While he has been fantastic in the IPL, in that same time-frame, his showing in T20 internationals has been underwhelming. He has featured in only 15 T20Is in that time, out of the 28 that India have played. Further, his average (25.92) and strike rate (117.47) in that period are decidedly below-par. So for this series, apart from being captain of India, Dhawan will want to lead the way in batting too.”It is very important. Of course any international match has its own impact, and whenever you perform internationally it makes a huge impact,” Dhawan said on Saturday, the eve of the first T20I. “So on a personal note, I’m really looking forward to perform over here and make my place more stronger for World Cup contendership.
