£52m winger has now told club he wants to leave as Everton submit offer

Still in the market for an attacking reinforcement even after signing Jack Grealish, Everton have now reportedly been handed a major boost in pursuit of a top target.

Moyes "looking forward" to "best version" of Grealish

It wasn’t so long ago that Grealish was breaking records by becoming the most expensive British player of all time, and everyone involved at Everton will be desperate to see a player worthy of that £100m price tag arrive and not the version that Manchester City have witnessed in the last couple of years.

There’s plenty of debate over whether the former Aston Villa man ever truly lived up to his price at The Etihad, but it’s hard to forget the impact that he made during their infamous treble-winning campaign – even if that was not reflected through goals.

That’s the calibre of player that Everton have welcomed to The Hill Dickinson and David Moyes is keen to see the “best version” of that player.

Whether Grealish will be ready to make his Everton debut as soon as Monday’s Premier League opener against Leeds United remains to be seen, but there’s no doubt that he’ll play a key role in the Toffees season with minutes under his belt.

Everton and TFG submit huge £37m bid to sign "powerful" new star for Moyes

ByCallum Kemp Aug 14, 2025

His arrival was a statement of intent by The Friedkin Group and they’re not done there on the transfer front. In fact, reports are now suggesting that they’ve received a major boost in pursuit of a La Liga star.

Kubo now wants to leave Sociedad amid Everton interest

According to reports in Spain, Takefusa Kubo has now asked to leave Real Sociedad following news that Everton submitted an opening offer to secure his signature earlier this summer.

Initial offers from those in Merseyside as well as from West Ham United and Bournemouth were believed to be around the €40m-mark (£35m) and, therefore, short of the winger’s €60m (£52m) release clause. As such, it would be easy to assume that all parties are still fairly far apart in negotiations, but Kubo’s request to leave could yet soften Sociedad’s stance in a major boost for Everton and others.

Since earning the praise of scout Jacek Kulig, who dubbed his start to the 2023/24 campaign as “fantastic”, Kubo has only kicked on and deservedly earned interest from the Premier League.

Chelsea chief departs club following failure to agree £65m-a-year shirt sponsorship in fight to beat PSR punishment

Chelsea's chief revenue officer has departed the club after failing to agree a new multi-year shirt sponsorship deal. The Blues remain the only Premier League side without a shirt sponsor but they are reportedly in talks with interested parties as they look to secure a huge revenue boost in their bid to avoid breaking Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Chelsea not expected to suffer setback despite exit

Casper Stylsvig has left Stamford Bridge less than two years after arriving in November 2023. Stylsvig previously held roles at Barcelona, Manchester United and Milan in various capacities. While Stylsvig has now moved on, Chelsea’s pursuit of a new front-of-shirt sponsor is not expected to be affected. According to The Telegraph’s Matt Law, Todd Kline – who leads Chelsea’s commercial operation and worked alongside Stylsvig – will continue ongoing discussions with a host of companies who are interested in linking up with Chelsea.

In a separate report from the , Chelsea are believed to have received a number of offers but a deal is yet to be clinched. The report adds that Enzo Maresca’s side are reportedly looking for around £65 million-a-season (€75m/$89m) from any prospective agreement, with a new Saudi airline rumoured to be linked.

Chelsea had short-term shirt sponsor in 2024-25

Chelsea had no shirt sponsor in 2024-25 until they agreed a short-term deal with Damac – a Dubai-based property firm. They also started 2023-24 without a shirt sponsor before reaching a £40m (€46m/$54m) agreement with U.S tech firm Infinite Athlete.

Getty Images SportChelsea's next match: Blues face Bayern in Champions League

Chelsea face a tough test when they travel to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in their Champions League opener this evening. The west Londoners are competing in Europe's premier club competition for the first time since 2022-23.

Nottingham Forest submit opening enquiry to sign "great" Championship star

With James McAtee, Omari Hutchinson and Arnaud Kalimuendo already through the door, Nottingham Forest have now reportedly made contact to sign a defensive addition.

Nottingham Forest closing in on Luiz agreement

The Tricky Trees may have taken time to truly get going this summer, but they’re now in no mood to stop spending as the Premier League campaign gets underway and transfer deadline day approaches. Evangelos Marinakis has welcomed a flurry of arrivals as of late, and Douglas Luiz looks destined to be the next to be welcomed by the Greek owner.

The midfielder will arguably be Forest’s most impressive signing of the summer if he puts pen to paper as expected. The former Aston Villa midfielder has endured a nightmare spell at Juventus, but will be remembered most by Premier League fans for how he helped Unai Emery’s side into the Champions League two seasons ago.

Now set to return to the Premier League to play for Aston Villa’s Midlands rivals, Luiz will have the chance to restore his reputation in a World Cup year. Given how emphatic Forest were on the opening day against Brentford too, the addition of Luiz is only likely to improve a side that is already firing on all cylinders.

More prolific than Wood: Nottingham Forest chasing £25m "physical beast"

As Nottingham Forest seek to add even more attacking firepower, could they sign a “physical beast” worth £25m who outscored Chris Wood last season?

ByBen Gray Aug 19, 2025

Even after the Brazilian potentially arrives to make it a fourth signing in the last two weeks at the City Ground, however, Marinakis is reportedly not done there in the transfer window. Reports are now indicating that Forest have launched an opening move to sign a Championship defender.

Nottingham Forest make contact to sign Fisher

As reported by Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, Nottingham Forest have now made an opening enquiry to sign Kellen Fisher from Norwich City. The 21-year-old has caught the eye of those at the City Ground after breaking into the Canaries’ senior squad last season and since keeping hold of his place under Liam Manning in the current campaign.

Earning plenty of praise from Johanes Hoff Thorup last season, the former Norwich manager explained why Fisher has the ability to play an inverted right-back role as well as in the natural full-back position – telling reporters: “He can do it because he has the technical abilities. He’s a great crossing player, and he’s a great technical player.

Kellen Fisher celebrates Norwich City goal.

“When you have that as one of your skills, then you can cover more and different positions. It’s just praise to him. He’s doing well, and it also creates a little bit more rotation in the team because now he has tried more positions.”

Seemingly doing enough to earn the interest of the Premier League, the young defender could go from Bromley in 2022 all the way to Nottingham Forest in the space of three impressive years.

How Nicolas Jackson could still return to Chelsea amid Bayern obligation twist

One of the most dramatic final stories of the summer transfer window was undoubtedly Nicolas Jackson and his exit from Chelsea.

The Senegal striker, who was heavily linked with a move away for weeks after Enzo Maresca brought in Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, was initially on the verge of signing for Bayern Munich in a record loan deal, which included an ‘option’ to buy, with just days to go before the deadline.

However, Delap’s potentially serious hamstring injury, sustained during their 2-0 victory over west London rivals Fulham, put a dramatic halt to the move and Chelsea planned to recall Jackson — despite the forward already landing in Munich to undergo the formalities of his transfer.

It was a very messy situation, and one which will have left Jackson, not to mention his representatives, fuming behind-the-scenes.

Luckily for the 24-year-old, Bayern managed to renegotiate their deal and convinced Chelsea to let him join Vincent Kompany’s side after all, with BlueCo instead opting to recall Marc Guiu from his loan spell at Sunderland.

It is mind-boggling how one injury could cause such a huge ripple effect, but in the process, Chelsea managed to secure better terms for Jackson’s departure.

Bayern paid the highest ever loan fee recorded for Jackson at around £14 million, which was part of their first agreement, but to sway Chelsea into letting the African leave, the Bundesliga champions agreed to turn their ‘option to buy’ at the end of his temporary spell into an ‘obligation to buy’.

This means Allianz Arena sporting directors Christoph Freund and Max Eberl are almost guaranteed to trigger Jackson’s £56 million clause to sign him permanently next summer, and if you include the loan fee, Chelsea stand to earn a total of around £70 million from this whirlwind of a transfer.

How Nicolas Jackson could still return to Chelsea

However, the key phrase is ‘almost guaranteed’, as explained by journalist Simon Phillips, via his Substack.

An imperative condition of Jackson’s obligation to buy clause has now emerged, with Bayern only forced to activate it if the former Villarreal striker makes a certain number of appearances in Germany this season, among other things.

Jackson scored 13 goals and six assists in 37 appearances for Chelsea last term, including a strike in their Conference League final win over Real Betis, but managed just one goal in the Premier League since the turn of 2025.

He was also sent off in the Club World Cup against Flamengo, and from this point onward, not to mention Chelsea’s deals for Delap and Pedro, Jackson’s exit started to gain traction.

Liverpool owners FSG take huge step towards buying La Liga club as part of longstanding ambition to expand into Europe

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group are reportedly inching closer to ending their search to own a second football club. FSG have been at the reins for the Anfield outfit since 2010 and after a slow start, they have overseen a hugely successful period in recent years. But their ambition, it appears, does not stop at Liverpool as they have a Spanish team in their sights.

Liverpool owners FSG want to expand empire

According to , FSG have been considering buying another team in addition to Liverpool for quite some time now, with the Premier League outfit assessing a takeover of Ligue 1 side Toulouse in 2024, which came to nothing.

In fact, FSG, which is headed by John W. Henry, have had a look at more than 20 clubs across Europe, including Malaga, but ultimately, they turned their attention elsewhere. Now, the group are understood to have completed their 'due diligence' on La Liga side Getafe, with CEO Michael Edwards, technical director Julian Ward, and director of football development Pedro Marques leading the charge.

The Azulones were reportedly made aware of the Reds' interest in them when they played Hull City in a pre-season friendly at the MKM Stadium on August 2, and within the week, a delegation from FSG flew to Spain to start the process of looking at their accounts and infrastructure.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportPositive talks between FSG and Getafe

The report adds that Ward, who is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, and Marques were 'central' to discussions between FSG and Getafe figureheads, with talks so far being 'positive'.

There is said to be no indication on how much it would cost to buy Getafe – who have been owned by local businessman Angel Torres since 2002 – but if the powerbrokers in Boston do wish to proceed, a deal is likely to be 'formality'.

Incidentally, FSG also owns Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox, and the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins. This would be the latest step in FSG's plans to expand their sporting empire.

FSG turned Liverpool around

FSG agreed to buy Liverpool from former American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks in October 2010, something that was greeted with great joy and fanfare.

But while the Reds won the Carabao Cup in 2012, they had to wait until 2019 for their first major trophy success. Then-manager Jurgen Klopp led them to Champions League glory that year, before winning the Premier League the following season.

Now, they are the defending league champions once more, have spent around £450 million ($599.6m) on transfers this past summer, and are back to being one of the biggest and most successful teams in the world – all of which has happened on FSG's watch.

Getty Images SportLiverpool chairman lifts lid on big summer spend

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner opened up on why Arne Slot's side needed to spend big ahead this season to try and retain their Premier League crown.

"The fact of the matter is it's going to be very difficult," he recently told the podcast. "As much as all the pundits are saying we are going to win the league this year, you can see from our first four matches exactly how competitive the league is.

"We have been resilient, we have been fortunate. The one thing I have learned, and we are relatively humble and modest about this, is we were very enthusiastic about changing the squad because it's very difficult to repeat.

"There was a great intention to bring in new players, obviously to get better. As much as it has been talked about how much our spend was this summer, we have been able to spend to the degree that we did so because we also sold a lot of players.

"One of the most encouraging things about that is we haven't clicked yet and I don't expect us to click right now. I do think part of what we have learned is that you can't just bring the same squad back. You need to bring in a new energy and new ideas."

Liverpool have a prodigy who has the potential to hit Wirtz's price tag

It was less than two years ago that Jurgen Klopp rocked Liverpool football club with the announcement that he would step down from his post at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Liverpool fans felt that the glory days would be no more, and the German’s project would taper off after several years of illustrious success.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp bows out

That, of course, wasn’t the case, with FSG appointing Arne Slot from Feyenoord and then watching as the shrewd tactician willed Klopp’s squad into a new shape, putting paid to any hopes of a Liverpool downfall, and instead guiding the Reds to the Premier League title.

So begins a new era, allowing Liverpool to sign some rather exciting superstars. Alexander Isak provided the cream on an extraordinary summer transfer window, but it’s Florian Wirtz who could become the club’s poster boy down the line.

Why Liverpool signed Wirtz

Liverpool broke the British transfer record when signing Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a £116m fee. The 22-year-old arrived having established himself as a “generational talent” in Germany, as was noted by sports media professional Cristian Nyari, and fills the creative void left when Trent Alexander-Arnold up and left for Real Madrid.

Admittedly, Wirtz’s opening few fixtures in the Premier League haven’t been the stuff of dreams, but there’s no question that his immense quality is in there, and that he will grow into a superstar under Slot’s wing.

Stats via Sofascore

After a few quiet showings, he looked flashier and smoother as Liverpool beat title rivals Arsenal before the international break and is expected to become one of the leading players in the Premier League.

Liverpool paid the big bucks to bring Wirtz over, and that’s all well and good, but the Anfield side might already have a homemade version of the playmaker in Rio Ngumoha, who has made his mark already this season.

Liverpool's future superstar

Liverpool poached Ngumoha from Chelsea’s Cobham Academy in 2024, and right from the off, it was clear that they had landed an elite talent, with John Terry even remarking that he was “gutted” the Blues had lost a prospect with a certain likeness to Eden Hazard.

He’s made exciting progress over his time on Merseyside, but Ngumoha announced himself when scoring the winner at St. James’ Park on his Premier League debut last month, marking the most extraordinary of entrances.

Electric on the ball, physical and having showcased an ability to keep his cool to convert in big moments, Ngumoha has the lot, and his precocious emergence is somewhat reminiscent of Wirtz’s at Bayer Leverkusen, with the Germany talent making his professional debut at the age of 17 in May 2020.

The rest is history, and Ngumoha has already written himself into the record books with his goal against the Magpies. Hailed as a “special” player by journalist Bence Bocsak for his efforts during pre-season, Ngumoha has since proved himself to be in a different category altogether.

1

James Vaughan

16 yrs, 8 months, 27 days

2

James Milner

16 yrs, 11 months, 22 days

3

Wayne Rooney

16 yrs, 11 months, 25 days

4

Rio Ngumoha

16 yrs, 11 months, 26 days

5

Cesc Fabregas

17 yrs, 3 months, 21 days

It was a show-stopping moment, to be sure, and Ngumoha’s potential is clearly recognised by Slot and Liverpool’s coaching staff, who opted against signing a direct replacement for Luis Diaz this summer after selling the Colombian to Bayern Munich for £65.5m.

Ngumoha will feature prominently throughout the campaign, and given that he has only just turned 17, he certainly carries the same prodigious weight as Wirtz when the German started to make a name for himself in Germany.

It would be foolish for the Reds to heap too much weight onto this youngster’s back as he cuts his teeth at the senior level, but there’s no question that he has what it takes to emulate Wirtz and one day stand alongside him as a generational talent in Slot’s Liverpool.

Faf du Plessis after DC's incredible win: This is why Impact Player rule is there

DC’s Impact Player Ashutosh Sharma brought them back from the brink with an incredible innings

ESPNcricinfo staff24-Mar-20251:07

Rayudu: Ashutosh was calm under pressure

Delhi Capitals (DC) were down and out at 7 for 3 and then 65 for 5 in their chase of 210 against Lucknow Super Giants in Visakhapatnam. But the lower order, led by Ashutosh Sharma, performed a rescue act that reduced the equation to 22 off two overs and then six off six balls. Last man Mohit Sharma survived a close lbw appeal off the first ball of the 20th over before taking a single. Ashutosh then smacked the winning six to seal DC’s one-wicket win, only the fifth in IPL history.DC vice-captain Faf du Plessis said the finish reminded him of the famous 438-run chaseSouth Africa pulled off against Australia at the Wanderers in 2006, calling that run “the most important single” of Mohit’s life.”Unbelievable, it actually reminded me a little bit of the 438 game against Australia when Makhaya [Ntini] got that important single towards the end,” du Plessis said. “That’s probably the best and most important single that Mohit Sharma has ever taken in his life – beautiful forward defence, just pushing it into the gap. What a story to get the big man back on strike to hit it for six.”Related

Ashutosh walked in as DC’s Impact Player with the score 65 for 5 in the seventh over. After the 13th over of the chase, DC were 116 for 6, needing 94 runs off 42 balls with four wickets in hand. ESPNcricinfo’s win predictor gave them a 1.56% of winning.”A lot of the cricketers, if you ask them, they would complain about the [Impact Player] rule in the IPL,” du Plessis said, “but this is obviously why that rule is there – for games when you think that you’re completely dead and buried, someone comes in and plays like that. I’m definitely going to drink some more masala tea to make sure I can hit the ball like the boys do at the end.”To be honest, when I looked at the wicket and saw how much the ball was gripping and losing five wickets, I thought it was going to be an almost impossible task. But it’s even great for the old brain of mine just to make sure that you can never be out of a game completely. The extra batter really makes a big difference.”Ashutosh got together with Vipraj Nigam when DC needed 97 off 45 balls. Their 55-run stand off just 22 balls brought DC’s equation down to 42 off 24 before Nigam fell for 39 off 15. Ashutosh was unbeaten on 66 off 31.”As an overseas player, one thing that’s remarkable for me to watch is the amount of Indian players that are so powerful and they got the ability to just strike the ball so easily,” du Plessis said. “It wasn’t an easy pitch. There was a lot going on, but the two boys at the back end there, just the way they came in and just effortless hitting boundaries.”

'We need crazy guys!' – Ruben Amorim calls on Man Utd players to step up amid club crisis as manager makes Matheus Cunha example

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says his struggling team need more "crazy guys" to help them get back on track. The Red Devils have suffered an underwhelming start to the new Premier League campaign and currently sit down in 14th place in the table despite a summer that saw Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo arrive at Old Trafford.

Man Utd's struggles continue under Amorim

After finishing in 15th place last season, Manchester United fans were hoping for better from their team in the new campaign. A busy summer saw a flurry of new signings and optimism rise among the Old Trafford faithful. However, Amorim's team has continued to struggle, managing just seven points from their opening six league games. United also suffered an embarrassing Carabao Cup defeat to minnows Grimsby Town in a dramatic penalty shoot-out that finished 12-11 to the League Two side. The results have drawn plenty of criticism and calls for Amorim to be sacked after less than a year in charge. Club legend Wayne Rooney has claimed Amorim "bluffed his way into the job", while pundit Jamie Carragher has called his tenure a "disaster" and feels his departure is inevitable.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportAmorim wants 'crazy players' at Man Utd

Manchester United's dismal form has piled pressure on Amorim and his tactical inflexibility has been question. Amorim has insisted he will not change his 3-4-3 formation and has instead called on his players to step up and show character during these difficult times.

The United boss told former Red Devil Owen Hargreaves in an interview with what he feels his team is lacking currently: "We have a lot of players that they were here for many years and we are struggling so that is always in your mind. It's not just the leaders, we need leaders, but sometimes what I'm thinking is we miss some crazy guys, you know?"

Amorim looks to Cunha and Mbeumo for inspiration

Amorim added that new signing Cunha is one player who can help inspire United: "The guys, I think Cunha is a little bit like that. He's a guy that is a good guy but he doesn't care who you are. He can play wherever and he will go with the ball. This kind of feeling, we need that. Harry Maguire was captain, he played national team, but you can feel it sometimes that when things are going wrong we go down. No matter if it's Bruno or Harry, and that is in the past, so we need to live in the future.

The United boss also feels Mbeumo can have a similar impact following his move from Brentford. He explained: "Sometimes you look at the pitch, something is going really wrong, and you see Bryan with a different light, because he came from a different environment. Then you look at Cunha and you feel that sometimes he is frustrated but you can feel the frustration is something like – give me the ball – so we miss that. We need to forget the past, we need sometimes that crazy guy. The world can be on fire, but I don't care. Sometimes it's not just the leaders, it's the maverick guys."

Man Utd's aims for the season outlined by Amorim

Manchester United have still not managed to string consecutive wins together in the Premier League under Amorim but the Portuguese is confident he can get his team up the table. The former Sporting boss was asked about the club's targets and wants to be back playing European football next season.

"I think we need to return to Europe. the funny thing is, and it's hard for our fans to understand this, I don't know what is going to happen," he said. "We are going to play better, that is my feeling, and I think every day if you see the games you feel we can win the games.
